225/55/17 on 17x7.5 +48's on SF Forester
« on: May 01, 2009, 10:35:58 PM »
I'll post photos on Sunday when I get back but I wanted to let you guys know that it actually doesn't look bad. I wish I had painted them Before I put them on but I've got enough sets of wheels/tires for this car that I can throw one of them back on when I get ambitious enough to sand (a lot) and then sand (a lot more) and then paint. No rush though.

I was going to put WRX Springs/Struts on my car but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work now. My drivers side front rubs on the fender liner and I'm not sure why because the passenger side doesn't rub. Not sure what I'm going to do about it but its not really causing anything other than annoyance and the car is already one giant annoyance (slight exhaust leak, rattly heat shields, nasty rod knock/piston slap/both, squeaking rear hatch, non working rear wiper, torque bind, etc) so it won't make much difference until I can push the liner back.  The rears are pretty close to the strut but don't rub so no big deal. My brakes look itty-bitty behind them though.  :-D

EDIT: sorry for the ramble, I've been working since 7:30am this morning and the only break I took was to cook dinner and swap wheels.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

It kind of reminds me of those Tahoe's on 20's but whatever, this set up was cheaper to put together than my 15" winter wheels.

And where it rubs. I'm pretty sure that this fender liner is just screwed up because it doesn't rub on the other side.

Thanks everyone. I'm also debuting the custom painted rear hatch handle (originally white, but didn't have white paint so black it was) that matches the plastic door handles quite well.

Only fun thing left to do is make friends with a welder and get the STi exhaust on. Need a 2" long rotated flange adapter made. Need to swap short blocks but I need someone to give me $1200 bucks first.

the exhaust can be fitted on the cheap. small 2 1/4" flex section $20. 2 ex clamps. that is what i did on my brothers rs to fit an sti catback. the flex section was about 8 inches long, so i cut off the front flange, rotated it, cut the cat back to make room for the flex. took about 30 minutes to do, take a look at lyndo sti catback if you want to see how it was done.

Honestly, depends on which way is cheaper. I'm a pack rat so if I didn't have to cut the flanges off the exhaust that'd be better so that if (when) in the future, I get another turbo Subaru I can use it on that without having to weld then.

Of course, then I might have more money, since money is driving everything I've done so far. By the way, I have finally become the last member of unysoc to get an old styles exhaust.
