Topic: 2002 + 2007 WRX w/Nite Shade'ed Tail Lights ;) Whatcha Think? (Read 1014 times)

Sooo, I decided to use some Nite Shades on my gf's '07 and my '02 WRX. For hers, it gives it a bit of a blue hue in the sunlight...goes good with the WRB color. Mine darkened right up since it was the red plastic that was being tinted and not the clear like hers. I also masked off the clear part of the lens on mine to give it a little something different. Also tinted the front lens on mine. So....what do you think?

And just incase you were wondering what the sticker on her car reads...

I bought some Nite Shades spray paint (made by VHT) like this:

-I removed the tail lights and went over them by hand with some 220 grit sand paper.
-After scuffing them all up, I took some prep solvent and cleaned them off really good.
-For the gf's, I just went ahead and applied a single coat of Nite Shades, making sure it all looked even. For mine, I first masked off the clear part of the lens before applying the coat.
-After letting the Nite Shades dry for about an hour, I applied a couple of coatings of clear coat.

All of the stuff can be bought at some place like Home Depot or Advance Auto. As for the Nite Shades...I've never seen it sold anywhere local, I have always had to buy it off the net when doing these kinds of things.

i did mine the same way. thief! ha naw, looks good. i think leaving the clear part is the best. im still lovin' it.

Pictures of lights at night (applying and not applying brakes)? They look really dark. I'm curious how well other drives can see when you're braking.

I'll get some of those up when I get a chance. Believe it or not, it really isn't bad at all.

too dark for my taste, especially on the '02, i think it makes the clear stand out way too much. that being said, it looks like it was done well if that's the look you were aiming for. nice job

i really like the way it came out on the 07 tails...i am definitely considering this since i have the 07 tails. wish it was a tad bit lighter tho

I've heard the stuff itself isn't that dark, it's all in how many layers you put down on it, is that right? If so, do you remember how many layers you spayed on each of those?

I did just one coat of VHT, two coats of clear.

Not the best night shot, but you get the idea...they are veery bright at night.

sweet...thanks bro. i have the 07 tails as previously stated and i really want to do this but i dont want them that dark...maybe ill get it and just try to start with a very very light coat and go more as needed

Yea, I'm sure you could go with a lighter coat. Post some pics when you get 'em done. I'd love to see how they turn out!
