aldog1330's 350Z
« on: August 09, 2009, 12:52:05 AM »
Well, I don't have a bunch of good pictures yet, but instead of waiting to take some, here is a taste of what I'm cruising in, now with wheels off an 07 Z.

Pictures from when I was buying it:

Only mods at this point are an Injen cold air intake, which will be coming off in the near future since the gains from it over a stock intake are negligible, and the stock intake sits in a much better position.  I'm going to get some tint, look at upgrading the exhaust, and adding a plenum spacer to get some more air into the motor.

For now yeah.  I cracked one of the Ray's driving on the wonderful streets of downtown Albany.  I might save them and use them just for autocrossing.  Went and picked up the 07 rims with my father from a guy out in Rochester today - tires have 600 miles on them.  Paid $600 for both rims and tires, and the rims are in great shape.  These should hold me over till I get some aftermarket rims in the spring.

Grand Premier was able to weld it, and it came out pretty good, but it still bugs the shit out of me.  I'm just afraid of cracking another one going up and down Madison Ave every day.  SOO '07's for now.

Always had a soft spot for these cars and thought very much about getting one after I got rid of the STi..   I think if I had found a white or black Track Edition for under 15k I would've got it for sure, but at that point they all seemed to be right around 20k or higher even for the ones a couple years old.

If you only do one mod I would suggest opening up the exhaust..  those cars have such a nice sound when they can actually be heard

+1 on exhaust and adding an oil cooler, too.

VQs are murderous on oil.

Yeah the older VQs were know to shit the bed due to oiling issues..........kind of like subarus :buck2:
If you really beat on your car you should look into a oil pump from a newer 350z.

Hrmm, I will have to look into this.  I know the HR version (from '06-'08) was known for oil consumption.  The '03-'05 which is the DE version of the motor (6600 redline instead of the 7200 for the HR) had weak 3rd and 5th gear synchros in the tranny.  But regardless I will look into it.  I missed having a car too much, so I dumped the Trailblazer SS I had.  Every time I drive it the car puts a smile on my face.  Thanks for the comments guys!

The day you drove my subie to Rochester didn't have anything to do with those feelings did they?

That kinda surprises me.  Plasti-dip may work.

My first thought as well!  Plasti-dip is like the duct tape of finishes!

I used  Vinyl and platic paint from Advanced Auto...{one of the more known brands} on the 2 when i did the interior and it holds up well...  I actually painted the section in the back between the headlights with it and then clear coated it and it didnt look too bad..

{been practicing some for this winter. }

what about the douche bag persona that is associated with most Z owners?  I already warned him about that. :D

Actually, I swear more people drive like douchebags towards and around me now than they did before.  People are always up on my ass.  Apparently I'm supposed to dump the clutch at 6k from every red light.  At least it's easier to get out of the way.

my350z.com, the biggest 350z forum I've found so far, is definitely full of douchebags.  Between the guys with their heads up their asses thinking they have a $200,000 sports car to the young punks buying up high mileage '03 Z's for 10k, its quite the gene pool.  There are a lot of helpful people, but way more useless people. Hence why I spend most of my time over here.
