Edit:  Okay, I changed the title because I was looking for more of a discussion on E-Ciggs, not a broad discussion on all smoking cessation aides.  It was a little confusing, as I'm not yet using this to quit nicotine all together, but more using this to continue with the nicotine and the 'act' of smoking, while getting rid of the tobacco, tar, smoke, ash, gross ashtrays, smelly car, smelly clothes, stained teeth and fingers and over 4,000 extra chemicals in ciggs (no offense to anyone who commented on other products, any method that works for you and your goals is great! I just want to narrow down the field a bit here)

Just got 2 packages in the mail today, containing all my "E-Cigarette" goodies.  For those who haven't heard of them, it's basically a personal vaporizer that you fill with nicotine laced, flavored liquid.  Supposed to be something like 4,000 less chemicals than a regular cigg  :-o

So, anyone here tried one of these things yet?  I'm a little scared to go start using it for all the weird looks and questions I'm going to get here at work from those who don't know what it is
(it looks similar to a cigg, but it's longer, matte black and has an LED light at the end.  I got one with a blue light and one with green)

A guy Matt (friend of Keith) had them.

I'm actually on the Chantix stuff as we speak, and it's been working well so far.

Good luck with your quitting process

hmmmm, interesting. it was a guy named Matt that showed them to me too (a friend of a friend of mine)  :-D

My gf tried the Chantix, and it made her sick every time she took it.  and i'm just scared of the psychological side effects I keep hearing about it.  Also, every single person I've ever met that that stuff worked for said it was great, but within a couple months are back to smoking as much as they were before.

Hopefully you'll be one of the ones that it actually works right for

oh, and just to be clear.....in the long run, I'll ween myself to lower doses of nicotine fluid, but I'm not "Quitting" everything, just trying to trade one vice for a slightly less harmful one for now.

baby steps  :-D

shit, i started when i was around 16, back when it was $2.10 a pack. who in their right mind picks up a habit this bad when ciggs are at least $7+ a pack?!

So, no one with any personal experience with these "E-ciggs"?  that was more the point of this, not just to brag that I'm trying to get rid of a habit  :-D

There is always wellbutrin instead of chantix.  It worked for me, I quit a nasty chewing habit I picked back up in law school.

Also does your girlfriend smoke, friends?  It makes it pretty difficult to quit if you are always around cigs.

I didn't have much luck with wellbutrin back when I was trying to quit dipping - different strokes 8-)

my gf quit a few months ago 'cold turkey', and now seems capable of just having one or two now and then without really picking it back up.  some friends still do, others have also recently quit....might just have to not see a couple friens till I see how well this thing works out  :-D

Ive smoked about a dozen cigs in my life... a few of them involved getting really drunk with friends that smoke so id go out with them and have some...  Never got addicted...  Good luck and one big motivator should be the money you save when you quit!

And your life. Great move
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

the money is a HUGE motivator!
I spent about $100 for the initial startup costs (getting all the hardware)...but after that, I figure it will cost me about $50 a month for fluid and replacement parts.  That's compared to about $225 a month that I've been spending on cigarettes   :-o :? :uglystupid2:

okay, I gotta see if I can change the title of this thread

an update if anyone is interested.....between lunch time monday and right now, I've smoke 6 actual cigarettes, only to use up what I still had, they tasted horrible, and I'm already glad to be done with them *lafs*

but using this vaporizer, if I didn't have any real ciggs left I still would've been fine. haven't craved any, this totally replaces them for me.

and I overestimated the costs.  I think I'll be able to make do with about $20 worth of liquid a month, and the occasional replacement battery and atomizer at $20 a pair (hopefully about once every 4 months or so).  so, about $300 a year to use this thing.  That's almost $3,000 a year I'll be saving!  :-o  (or $245-ish a month....that's enough to cover my car payment!   )

so, the update is: so far, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try getting off cigarettes, wether it's to quit, or just to save money and continue using nicotine without all the extra crap in it

Edit:
Even just found this nifty little banner tracker to help me keep track LOL

damn!  Okay, I just sent an email to see if they'll be getting more, since I've already given a few other friends that link too lol

if they don't re-stock soon, you can find coupon codes for some of the other suppliers by searching for "coupon" or "code" in the vendor section of that forum.  Might be able to find a good deal that way.

while you're waiting, seriously, do some research first and make sure it's something you want before just jumping in and ordering.  I don't wanna be blamed if you buy it an it just isn't your thing   :crazy2:

okay, just making sure  :-)

one thing no one ever mentions at first is that there's ALOT more involved with upkeep than with just taking out and lighting a cigg.  be sure you raed up on the cleaning and maintaining of equipment too.  I don't mind it so much most times....but sometimes first thing in the morning I wish I didn't have to fill up a cartrige and all that before my eyes are really even open  :-D

and, with my cartrige capped off, my atomizer blown out and sitting to dry, and my battery in the charger, I can finally go to bed now! haha
I'll let you know when I hear back about the stock update

ya know, I couldn't really say about the battery life.  I bought the carrying case/charger, and I just switch out the battery a couple times a day, before they have a chance to die

It isn't a top of the line model, from what I hear....but a really good value for one to start with, to make sure you like it before spending a fortune.  I've got no major complaints, but then, I've got nothing to compare it too  :-D

here's the response I got from the people at cignot.com:
China is closed for a National holiday until the 7th. I have multiple orders already placed, so I suspect I will have more mid week, the week of the 11th.

i ordered the starter kit from there, which comes with 5 pre-filled cartridges in "Marlboro" flavor.  I smoke menthols, so I ordered 30ml of menthol liquid from TheVaporPro.com along with the Joye 510's PCC (Personal Carrying Case, that doubles as a portable battery charger) and two 5 packs of empty cartridges with the round mouthpiece instead of the 'whistle tip' mouthpiece that came with the kit

The starter kit cost me $40 with shipping, the juice I got cost me $15, the PCC cost me about $25.  The blank carts were like $3 or so a pack.  The PCC is completely optional, but VERY useful if you want to be able to make it through a whole day without having to plug in another charger

If you like Marlboro Menthol ciggs though, don't bother with the Marlboro Menthol juice that I got from them. damn stuff just tastes like candy canes LOL
Next batch I'm getting some flavorless, and try making my own menthol with the menthol crystals and some Everclear.  I hear it's the best recipe out there :-)

All in all I've spent $97 on startup costs and a bottle of juice so far, but just since Monday I've saved over $50 in ciggs and I still have 3/4 of a bottle of juice to go

I ended up picking up a setup for myself.

Bought a Silver Bullet (AltSmoke), some 306 Atomizers / Drip Tips, and some Peppermint juice (24mg) from PureVapes.

Today was the first big test (a weekend of football / XBOX360 doesn't provide a good baseline). I had two cigarettes at work (one right when I got there, one @ lunch), when I typically have 7-8. I threw in 3 dips after getting home (opposed to 5-6).

My impression is that it does a great job replacing cigarettes, but not as good replacing Skoal. I think if I were to pick up some unsalted sunflower seeds to pair with it, I would have better luck replacing Skoal. Either way, I'm making progress 8-)

jumping straight in to one of the big boy battery mods, eh? that's the way to do it
confused though, I thought the silver bullet runs 510 atomizers?

glad to hear it's making an improvement...but yeah, I can see where dip would be a whole other ball game.  The liquid you got is a pretty high strength, but it won't replace the sensations of having that hunk o' shit in your mouth (sorry, i never have understood the appeal of that habit lol)
