I've had this intake on my car since summer of 2007.  I love it.  Installation was quick and straightforward.  I got the silver to match the intake manifold and it is available in wrinkle red for the STI.  I noticed a power gain low and midrange.  With the intake box removed I can hear the turbo spooling and the bypass valve.  Sounds awesome.  The intake also comes with a heat shield box to block off the entire untake from the engine bay.  The rubber lining that runs along the top of the shield meets and presses into the shield guard on the underside of the hood to make a tight seal.  The MAF sensor also comes with its own heat shield.  I got my intake from JSCspeed for $225 i think and the price has gone up since then.  I left the first part of the stock intake system on to add some fresh colder air coming from outside the car and sending it directly to the intake itself.  And for some pictures because i love pictures:

The K&N Recharger Kit is great.  The cleaning spray bottle is a little annoying because of the constant pumping but it works.  The thick dirty spots just fall apart and run down the filter.  The respray oil is bright red so you can't miss a spot and looks great.
I just cleaned the filter the other day and it makes a world of difference that you can feel instantly.  Car is so much smoother and better power, obviously.

I liked the one I had on my last wrx, sounded nice, worked well in cold weather and before the engine warmed up LOL  But I got mine used and it didn't come with all the nice shielding, so I was just sucking warm air and didn't ever do the cold air extention piece because I had a busted wheel well liner :-(

maybe one of these days I'll pick up a new one with all the nice bits and pieces

i never did, no problems with the car running or anything.. i am sure a tune wouldn't be a bad idea.  but i don't want to get a tune just for an intake

I never got tuned either....I know you need to for some, but I believe I read that the K&N and the SPT are the only 2 done right so that it doesn't need a tune because it doesn't mess with the maf location.  then again, someone might correct me on that....but my car never blew up with this on with a stock tune or an AP off the shelf tune

yeah i read a number of times on nasio c when people start arguing about cold air and short rams and all the intake/bov arguments.  they all come to the point that the k&n, spt, and come say cobb don't need any tuning and don't modify the maf sensor placement or anything

I have the cobb intake. Doesn't need a tune, but I have a DOM tune with all my mods anyway.
