anybody using a cb?
« on: December 09, 2009, 09:13:50 PM »
i'm running in the 48 hours of tri state rally and a few others this year and want to put a cb in my car.  I'm not incredibly fond of the whip antennas but you gotta do what you gotta do i suppose.

Is anybody running a cb, and if so please tell me/show me your setup, thanks

When you get done with the 48hrs event, bring it back to the store, say it didn't work, and request store credit. Use the store credit for engine oil. Rinse/repeat every year of the 48hrs event (alternate between area stores if you want)

I still have a CB and antenna from last year.  wired it to a cig lighter power plug.

It was on the Baja, but I used duct tape, zip ties, and a metal clamp to mount the antenna on one of her stainless steel flying buttresses.

I'm willing to sell...I think i saw your car at the pizza place on Rt 32 in menands in that little strip mall plaza...we could meet there one day if you wanna have a look at my little radio.

Did you get any kind of discount? It's not as though you have ties there or anything ...

OK, so... i ended up getting a cobra in dash unit with the front mount speaker.  Model C18-WXSTII.  I've never been a fan of cobra but it has really good reviews and guys who are running them in the subies are saying the lights match up exact which is a huge plus.  There is also not a whole lot to choose from when it comes to din mounted cb's with front facing speakers in general.  Seemed like a good find.

Got it here for 60- shipped!  the lowest i could find it anywhere else was 75ish on ebay so i thought i'd share my good find with you guys if your looking for one as well.

I'll be getting a larsen NMO roof mount antenna for it, gonna try to keep it at 27" that way it won't be too bad.  the antenna also unscrews if you want to take it off and a very small cover up cap replaces it to keep everything sealed.

I also had fred order me a din sized clock pod and here are some pics i hijacked of nasioc of what it will look like in the end:

According to cobra it needs the mic plugged in, or an extension to transieve.  What I'm going to do is buy another mic or extension (whatever is cheaper) and chop it off about 1" from where it plugs in and put some heat shrink tubing over it.  That way if i just want to listen in i won't need the mic cord hanging out.  (I really hate cords)
