Bang Bang Clank Clank.....
« on: December 27, 2009, 04:17:41 PM »
Yesterday i was pulling away from a stoplight and the ground had ice, The tires started to slip and when it finally grabbed the pavement i heard a big Clunk, now whenever i make a sharp turn and accelerate i hear a clunk clunk bang bang, but when im driving straight or turning slow it doesnt do it..... it sounds like its coming from the right rear, not positive though. has anyone else here ever experienced this prob?? or any ideas where i should start to look for the prob.... I thought i may have blown the u joint knuckle in an axle but it makes no noise when driving straight, Could this be the rear diff?  and how should i go about checking that?? Thanks for your help guys, anything is apreciated.

Check to see if one of the rear axles came out of the differential slightly.  Pop it back in.

i took a look today, There are chunks of my gears in the bottom of the rear end.......... looks terrible. Can you guys steer me in the right direction here as to how i should go about repairing this with a small budget.. if its even possible. and what else i should look for now that this happened. the car still drives but it grinds going wround sharp turns. I have been babying it so i can get to and from work. Is this going to ruin my transmission if i keep driving it? or anything in the front end?? ANY help here would be greatly appreciated! My cell is 5187883186 if someone has some time to explain to me what i should do here. or just leave it here and ill chk it later. is the "rear end" called the rear differential?? if so does anyone have one for sale??

as you have already realized by your post in the other thread...fred has one and he can answer an of your questions about the problem. i dont think you have anything to worry about with damaging your tranny if the problem is isolated to the rear diff. GL either way

You COULD wear out your center diff IF the rear is just free spinning... So Drive it sparingly, and get it replaced ASAP

ok, I picked the diff up on sat, on my way home the car began to completly skip just like if the clutch was wasted.... so now im thinking the center diff might be smoked too... or the clutch but i dont think the clutch would just go without any signs of slipping before... any input here? just my luck!! also i heard the gears slipping when the rpms went up and the car didnt move... have a noise coming from the right front around turns as well. SO, i should plan on getting a new center diff and clutch while im at it?, because my clutch was not the best as it is.correct?? Also, i should pull the whole tranny and put it on the bench and give it a complete look over,Right...  anyone know where i can pick up a used tranny or center diff or clutch for reasonable prices... i will have about 800 bucks to put into it in about 2 weeks or so...should this be enough or should i start a separate savings account???lolthanks guys
