Opinions on all-seasons for WRX
« on: January 05, 2010, 11:32:09 AM »
Hopefully this hasn't been covered lately. I need new tires for my '03 wagon, and would prefer all-seasons that are OK in the snow. I have had great luck with Nokians, both the WR and the WRG2 on other vehicles, (I think they're better than a lot of snow tires) but I wonder if they'll be up to decent warm weather driving. They're fine for my truck or suv, but I expect better handling for the wrx. Does anyone here use nokians year-round? I've read probably every review at Tirerack for all-seasons in 205/55/16, but there's a ton of conflicting info. I would appreciate any suggestions for a good all-season that's passable in the snow. I'm not going the winter tires/summer tires route. (I may be selling my wrx in the Spring.)  Thanks.

I used them on my STi (04) through a summer (and two winters) ~50,000 miles no problem. Still had an appreciable amount of tread left.

Loved the Nokian WR's so much I put them on my '06 Outback immediately (June? July?) and used them. IMO, best true all season out there.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

My suggestion is to go winter/summer.

For an allseason I had good luck with the Kumho Ecsta ASX on the last subaru.

May I suggest a set of 17" RE-92s?     have a set in my garage with very low miles.

I have sold 30 or so sets of WRG2s this fall. People have gone out of their way to call me after the sale and tell me how much they love them.

I have been completely amazed at how utterly pathetic my Falken Ziex RE-92 are in the least amount of slush, snow, or ice... coming from Blizzaks back when I dailied the car in the winter.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I will head to the tire store this coming week, probably for the Nokians. The G2s are around 159 per tire for the V rated.

Bioya: where are you selling tires? I have had a couple sets of WRs on my truck, and recently WRG2s on my wife's suv. I guess the G2s are supposed to be an improvement over the WRs, which were discontinued, but I find they like to roam around the road too much on her car. (maybe they need more air). Hope they don't do this on my WRX.

Were they falken ziex 512's or Bridgestone Potenza RE92's?

ha-ha. Someone was paying attention, and it wasn't me. They're Falkens, must be 512s then.

Sorry I didn't see this. I work for Precision auto Repair, in Scotia. I'd be happy to get you a price if you already haven't gotten tires yet.
