Took My Car in for the Raw Fuel smell recall and chaos ensues
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:43:52 PM »
I got to Capitaland today at about 4:30 or so and hit the button on my keys to open the car up before I even went in and the horn didnt beep. So I went in told the guy went back out checked the fuse on my hellas and it was blown. My intake was not quite back on all the way no big deal. They also managed to get coolant on every thing also not a huge deal. They had just brought it out because it was still warm when I got in the temp gauge went right up. On the drive home not even 10 min away the cel light starts flashing wtf is going on here. :tickedoff: I bring it back and the tech is gone and it has to sit till monday now I am very.  :tickedoff: FML!

I'm waiting for that update as well.......no offense to anyone's 'boy' or what-not.....but it is a little concerning to hear the initial report.  an update on what the results were will probably make alot of us happy

car had a cel on due to a misfire. the car had a ignition coil lead ziptied on to the coil when it came in that the owner installed. to do the recall you must unhook the coil wires from the coil to remove the intake manifold. the tech believes that coil wire became loose after he performed the recall, he pulled the car in adjusted the ziptie the and no more cel.

ahhhhh, see? now that makes good sense.  I'm all for zipties and duct tape repairs in general...but ya gotta check those first thing at the sign of trouble, especially before reporting that trouble and making other people worry  :-D

I used zipties to hold up the plastic undercarriage that runs along my sideskirts yesterday 8-)

I've actually used them for the same thing ckb did, on one of the coil packs on my last wrx, when I snapped the clip on it.

I think the best I ever saw was a broken bumper, where they drilled a bunch of holes along the crack and put some heavy duty zip ties through, looked like it was stitched back together  :-D

Sorry it took so long for an update. I got the car back every thing seemed find till today I realized my factory boost gauge wasnt working they forgot to hook the line back up to the tee so tomorrow I am gonna have to figure out where that line went to I couldnt see it tonight when I took a peek. Fred is right about the clip for the lead on the coil and I am the one that broke it. Those things get so brittle after a few new york winters and when I did my plug change it snaped so I ziped it back on and that was like 20k miles ago been fine ever since.

Nice! Did you get the letter in the mail or was the dealership able to look up the VIN and do the work? I want to take mine in but the letter never came  :-(

Got the letter as well for likuidphreon's 02, haven't done it yet though.

I think you can go on my.subaru.com and register your car there to see if yours is one of the VINs needing the work done.

I gotta go do that.  Mine's still really bad.  I just hate taking it in to Fred bc I hear the dealerships have to do this at a loss realistically.  And everyone here's scared me from going to Goldstein.

I believe SOA would cover the cost for the dealership if not that sucks.  :buck2:

we basically do it at cost, SOA dropped the price on the parts to about $30 from about $145 but they do pay for labor, it's not much.  We concern of self more about taking care of our customers. We currently have 4 of the recall kits in stock and have more on order, Please contact our service dept to set up an appointment,

i started hacking a set of TGV's apart last night Marty, thank you very much.  also picking up an intake manifold from Fred this afternoon to polish out the inside, and my ixizICE (Intake Manifold spacer) is being shipped as we speak, along with the ixizSclutch from the group buy  :crazy2:

Once I get mine done, I'll sell anyone my old TGV's so they can do the same.  $100 is what I paid for a set. locals won't have to pay shipping on top of that like i did
