Opinion on TEIN Coilovers
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:25:34 PM »
So I'm planning my next few upgrades and I really want to put in adjustable coilovers so that I can adjust the ride height during the winter/better handling.  I'm looking through the brands and I am leaning towards TEIN Comfort Sports.  Id like to keep my decent ride, but still have the better handling. Any opinions of TEIN, or suggest another brand of coilovers.

Check out fastwrx.com and turninconcepts.com They might have sales or can steer you in the right direction. I've talked to the guys at turnin before and they are very helpful. Hope this helps.

a good friend car has a tein coilover setup (benji) and his car handles 10x better than mine and i have front and rear sway bars, front and rear endlinks, performance springs and an sti driveline with struts, laterals links, control arms, etc. and his entire setup is wrx and stock minus the coilovers. besides the price, i would go with tein. bc racing is a great setup based on reviews and the prices are very reasonable.

Im a regular on fastwrx.com due to their "legacy shop" I bought my aftermarket mesh grill from them, painted and everything it wasn't too pricey either. Thanks for the advice

True True.  Also, realize that your GF/Wife may hate you if you switch to coilovers. Ask me how I know.

Im afraid to ask.  I think Im going the TEIN route just because I am not planning to turn the LGT into some glorified vision of auto-x-ness, they have decent reviews, and they are not terribly expensive(well atleast for the basic ones).  I was hoping to have this thread say either: yes they last well and are comfortable, or no they blew out of the car on a corner and took out a bystander-type of thing.  This thread has turned into suspension in general.

Being one of the universally cheapest options out there, I wouldn't expect them to set the bar for longevity or anything. The basic and super street TEINs (that I looked at, for the MINI) have comparatively high spring rates - which I assume is where most of the performance gain of any cheap coilover comes from. Something labeled "comfort" might soften those rates a bit. Just for daily driving, I suppose anything that will bolt up correctly will not fall off of the car.

My Opinion:
At an auto-x Tiens are better than stock ... Plain simple. Might not be the best, BUT will greatly improve your times.

Your nott looking for Auto-x Insaneness.. Your just looking to drive around looking good. So YOU dont NEED to spend thousands on good dampers with the same spring ;) So yeah, Tiens would work for you.

My buddy Ryan had tein basics on his wrx and I thought it handled awesome. The only problem he had with them was when he opened the hood you could see the rust all over the top of them.

I thought he said he got the cheapest ones, but either way rust all over the top was his only complaint I remember
