New wheels and rubbers question.
« on: January 27, 2010, 12:06:59 PM »
I think i decided to go with the Rota DTP 17x9. Can anyone tell me the widest tire I could go with without rubbing? Or the most practical tire for that size wheel? Thanx Guys

the 08's are different than the 02-07...i have 17x9's for the summer with 245/45/17 tires on it and i still rub over bumps and heavy turning. i do have lowering springs and my rear fenders rolled as well. im pretty sure with the 08+ sedans, you can run a very wide setup with a tire in the 265 or 275 range depending on the exact setup of the wheel, ur suspension and if the fenders are rolled or not.

I did'nt want to have to roll my fenders but lowering springs will get ordered soon aswell, any recomedations on springs? So you think I would be ok with like a 235? I'm not trying to go crazy wide but deffinitley wanna upgrade from the 205's that came factory on the car.

depends on offset and such.  I know 225-45-17's fit without a problem (Jays02rs's 08 hatchback), but then the width of the rim is wasted (and goofy looking).

agreed...i would have went with a wider tire if i could have but i got a close out deal on a set of hankook ventus RS2's and the widest size at the time was 245 for a 17" rim. im happy with the way it looks but i would be happier with a 255 or 265 personally even if i had to pull the shit out of my rear fenders :-P

235 will give you even more of a stretched look and like dave said, will be a waste of a 17x9 rim. here is a pic of my 17x9 rim with my 245/45/17 tires on it for reference.

Nevermind I just talked to Dan over at Wheeldude.com and he said with the rear fenders rolled I should be alright with 245's. Can anyone hook me up with someone with fender rolling skills? Thanx guys

I was running 235's on 8.5 wide wheels with a +48 offset last summer. 245's would have rubbed on our 08s with that wheel.  Is that 9" wheel with a +35 offset ? If it is, you def will need to roll the fenders.

Its the 17x9 with the 42 offset. I guess I'm gonna give in and get my rear fenders rolled. Anyone know anybody that can do it for me?

FYI,  I am running 18x8 in standard Rota offset {48} I think,  with 235/40/18  and it clears fine.   I think 245 will clear without rolling as well. I will find out once these tires are done if I still have the car.

FYI,  3gwrx.com is a useful site for 08+ imprezas. Not as many dick heads there as nasioc too.

Our imprezas has a bit more room for tires than the 02-07 sedans did.  Not a lot, but a slight bit.... Definitely wider than the 02-07 wagons.
