Tranny oil change
« on: February 07, 2010, 10:20:09 PM »
So my friend Corey and I changed my tranny oil tonight and I can say it was smelly ass oil.  :buck2: So We get it jacked up and we take the plug out and inspect it and there is this huge piece of metal on it. I believe that it is a syncro. So yeah we we then dump the oil from into a windshield washer fluid and it is black as hell, like it was never ever changed, also appeared to be a quart or two down.  :buck2: So yeah the differences in shifting is great so happy I did this.  :smitten: :smitten: Everyone should go to Fred if you want extra s. Thanks Fred.
Black oil

And the piece from my tanny.

Yikes.  There is going to be a rebuild in your future.  Not good for ANY piece of your tranny to be spinning around, missing a jagged chunk.

These images are actual illustrations from Toyota's Mr2 Service Manual.  No, really.

It does make a huge difference. Extra-S is awesome.

Actually, you reminded me, need to check the level in mine.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

Tranny shifts fine, and not a problem at all. For all I know it could have been sitting on the drain plug for 100k miles. And I mean the marks on it could have been when it broke off and got to the magnetic drain plug not it bouncing around. hopefully.  :buck2: I remember Byron taking something chunk out when he did his but his pics are no longer on his photobucket so I'm not sure.
