benji hasnt been on in a couple days...no tune was able to be done because the subaru knock sensor is too sensitive for this new motor. matt at DSG turned it off and kept the boost low so nothing gets damaged but it basically at the level of a stock wrx. no numbers or dyno sheet.

hopefully he will be on soon to update with his own feelings but it was a not so good day :-(

fred said he was going to work with dom to see if there is a solution other than rebuilding the motor AGAIN.

the car runs beautifully now with the knock sensor off and matt at DSG said that he has faith that only 10 lbs of boost (even at WOT) will not damage anything with the knock sensor off so thats good but instead of making close to 300WHP, he is only at "stock MT wrx range" according to matt.

so at least he has a car that he can drive but the situation isnt ideal.

Hey guys...sorry it's been so long...I've been a bit discouraged....I put the whole story up in the review section.

http://www.unysoc.org/board/index.php/topic,6339.0.html

Anyways...Yeah read that and you'll know what's up.

I've decided I'm going to sell the car as is, and see what I can get for it. I mean...hell the motor it self should be worth some money if nothing else. I'll be selling it with a ton of extras to...so, we'll see what happens.

I've dumped enough money into this car, and it's time for me to cut my losses and move on. Hopefully someone will bite on the thing and get it off my hands...hell maybe even do some good with it. I'm gonna get me a nice timid 2.5i premium or something.  :-)

False knock + 16-bit ECU = BTDT.

So, this being a newb question I guess? There is no way for you to change your knock sensor?

Short answer, not really w/o going standalone like Spenk did...

I don't think they have worked out all knock sensor stuff in the 16-Bit ROM, if it even exists.  False knock is a bitch to deal with I have it at low loads.

See, this whole "knock" correction thing I don't know about/ had to deal with cause I don't have a built motor. I'm eventually gonna redo the pistons on mine....then I'll guess I have to learn about it.

This.

Mike @ Innovative was in direct contact with the guys at COBB to see if they had ever isolated the false knock issue so it could be tuned around on the 16-bit ECU.

COBB said that they had never gone looking for a real solution, because they knew the issue is a tricky bitch.

There is some new blood working on the 16bit ECU, especially the Grp-N ROM (LC/Speed Density/Antilag ), so it may actually get figured out eventually.  The open source world took a hit when Cobb hired away the master ROM disassembler...

A TXS UTEC will get you running with adjustable knock sensitivity very cheaply.

that isn't a bad idea I have seen utec's go for as little as 150 in the last few months. There was time when they were the best tuning option available.

so the knock problem is on the older models? I shouldn't have a problem with a built motor on an 08?

Matt at DSG informed me that if I went with a standalone...the car could not be inspected. So, I've kind of just gotten it in my head that it's time for a realistic vehicle for myself being a college kid...and have some fun down the road when I have more money to be a bit more frugal (sp?) with.

As far as extra goodies...I have a bunch of stuff...I have to go through it all but a short list to start.
-The original motor that was in it...Could be good, could not be good. Not too sure...Either way...a build possibility?
- Stock WRX Wing
- Stock WRX Struts
- Stock Intercooler
- Stock Fog lights
- 3" cat-back
- 18" Rims (Can't remember how wide they are...like 6.5" maybe 7.25"?)
- A 2004 WRX Specific Lamborghini Door Kit (Bought it when I first thought about showing the car...and never put them on.  )
- Some other stuff....I'd have to go through everything.

On a 32-bit, yes.  16-bit, not so much.

I'm going to have swap my ECU back in come inspection time and drive ~50 miles to reset the OBDII monitors to "READY" status.  No biggie.

You might have false knock problems with a built motor in an 08.  My new built motor is a lot louder than the old one and is too much for the stock ECU.  Piston slap can cause problems with the knock sensor, as can valvetrain noise.

but like spenk said....I can just swap ECU's before an inspection...drive 50 miles very calmly and pass then switch back?

Thats a good route then.
