Two problems
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:07:04 AM »
ok first, when it is cold out and i have to open my hood, the hood doesn't shut.  the second latch that you use your hand for holds but the latch opened from in the car won't catch.  its only when it is cold out, really cold like tonight and the last time it was in the low single digits.  anyone else have this happening?
Second, my car seems to be taking longer to heat up and when the heat is on full blast and the guage says its hot, cold air is coming out unless i am on the gas.  would this be due to an air pocket or low coolant, old coolant?   didn't check it yet, but i will tomorrow when its light and maybe a little warmer

hood latch -- yep, has happened to me.  All the road grime gets into the latch and prevents the spring from "knocking" the big hook into place.

I used some strong degreaser, cleaned the entire latch mechanism with straight simple green and then liberally re-greased it and no problems in 4 years.

Air pockets and low coolant are essentially the same thing --- air in the system.  If the level in the overflow bottle appears "normal", you need to burp it.

and since i installed perrin upper and lower radiator hoses and refilled the radiator...my heat is so effing hot that it burns my eyes after a period of time. its still takes a while for the car to warm up, especially when its wicked cold like it has been

echaust hasn't smelled funny or anything, haven't seen any leaks or puddles under the car either
