Droid and Iphone users
« on: February 01, 2010, 12:18:45 PM »
I am way to lazy to search thru the market for new applications to install. Most of the ones I have now I have gotten because other people have told me about them. So I figured we could  post ones that we currently have and what they are good for. I will start.

aCar: Great for tracking gas mileage and maintenace.

Loopt: gps tracking so you can locate your friends, or to track you kids.

CB blackjack: Killing time in the crapper

Shop savvy: Scan barcodes and search for the best prices on the web and locally. Will even give you directions and phone numbers to local stores.

Automatic Task Killer: Kills tasks running in the background to save battery and processing speed

Google goggles: I have only seen this app on the Moto Droid, cant find it on the Eris or Iphone.

Live Scores: running updates for all sports, refreshes every 30 seconds.

Wheres my Driod: Install this app and you can never lose your phone when its on vibrate or silent. Send a txt from any other phone that says "Wheres my Driod" the volume on your phone will turn up and the phone will ring for 1 minute or 5 minutes so you can find it.

Pandora Radio: works great thru my bluetooth radio.

I am an app whore. Love the apps on my droid. Some favs:

ColorNote: allows you to put post-it notes on your phones main pages
Home++: a more customizable home app. allows more pages as well as some other nice changes
Handcent: a completely customizable text messenger
QuickSettings: just a widget for the home screen so you can get to your important settings faster(also includes a flashlight option)

as for games there are a lot of good ones too:
NesoidLite: an NES emulator
DaftMachine: just download it and you will see
SpacePhysics: awesome game and the only app I have paid for $2.99

I also like the stuff that lets you explore the tilt functions of the phone like:
googleskymaps: just an app so you can see constellations as you move your phone
labyrinthlite: just a game where you roll the ball
tiltmazes: another tilty game

I have tons more and as I remember them I will edit this.
Whoever smelt it dealt it.

Moto Droid or Eris?

Nevermind just realized you have the Moto or you wouldnt need Home++ The Eris comes with 7 home screens. I tried to download ++ and it is not available for the Eris.

I also have a few Dave Chapelle sound boards. Rick James and Lil John. Fun for the first 5 minutes then meh..

That handcent sounds interesting. I also looked at an Adhoc Thrower app. Dont know enough people with a droid for it to be useful so I saved the space.

Really only 4 Droid or iPhone users willing to share apps.

Handcent: a completely customizable text messenger

Outstanding app. Switched to it as soon as I saw it. Also talked a guy at work into it.

The Eris came loaded with Tweeter which is a tilt maze game. Let my roomate check it out and he beat all 32 levels in 17 minutes on his 2nd try.

Besides whats been mentioned here already:

Robodefense
Touchdown for Exchange (for work)
CarHome

... oh, and 2.1 on my Moto Droid.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

It requires rooting your phone/dumping an image onto it/applying the new image.

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/10247-how-install-2-1-easy-way.html

There is a risk of bricking your phone and its not my or anyone elses fault if you do. I haven't been able to find any info about putting 2.x on the Eris yet but I'm still looking J

As long as you get a modern gen Android-based phone you'll be fine. Eris runs 1.x series currently and the Moto Droid runs 2.x (2.0.1 as shipped). They're all good phones, though.

I just found an additional use for "wheres my driod".

You can also use the gps in the phone to locate it. Send a text with "gps my droid" and you will receive a return text with the Lat. and Long. of your phone. I was surprised at the accuracy of it even in the big steel factory I work in.

StreamFurious is great for music streaming. They also have a hacked howard 101 channel from Sirius.
That works until we finally get flash for the real Sirius player.

ThrottleCopter for killing time in the bathroom (My best 34436 and numb legs  :2funny: )

Goggles is a visual search engine where you take pictures and it will search the web for a match - not really usefull but cool.

LED Flashlight with strobe function

DockRunner let's you put your Droid into docking mode without a dock or magnets
Sound Grenade -cool ap that makes a mosquito noise, annoying as hell
Steamy WIndow - Ladies love it

All the fart sound apps are great.
nesoid
shazam

I messed up and jumped in my car one time with the sound grenade going off. The phone connected to my bluetooth stereo and I almost went deaf with the sound coming thru my speakers.
Been trying to get goggles, I have to wait until the Eris goes above 1.5.

I have to tell my friend about stream furious he has been trying to get Howard on his moto droid.

I realize i am a little late to the party here but I will throw my two cents in since it is the industry I work in.

Currently I have the Moto Devour "red headed step child" of droid.

Favorite apps

-Panda Home-  Home Replacement complete with skins allows you to choose how many customizable screens you have and also alows you create custom side bars I highly recommend this one.
-Advanced Task killer- self explanitory kills apps
-Auto Responder- When someone calls you and you dont pick up sends them a text with an away message you set
-Better Keyboard- Sweet keyboard replacement with customizable skins not necassary all other droids beside devour
-Fring- Allows you to make calls through wifi when in places without service or in a country that is not CDMA
-schottgunn- Yep its an app that looks like a shot gun and makes appropriate sound effects
-shopper- Barcode scanner shows product info and best prices
-tv.com and Ustream-  Watch television shows on your phone
-Mabilo ringtones- free ringtones

Widgets
-Smooth Calender- puts the next three days onto your home screen
-Audio manager- allows you to adjust all phone volume options from home screen

Games-
-Gem miner, Throttle Copter, Hangman, fishing to go

Getting the Htc Incredible when it comes out look it up

Me:  09 Legacy 5spd
My Fiance:  06 Impreza Wagon 5spd
Its a Subaru Household

Best App evar.... Lookout

It runs antivirus, locates your phone if lost (like wheres my droid) and it also backups everything your phone has on it on their server (which is kinda scacry) but it was the only way I could backup my contacts saved to "phone"

So right now they have my pics, call logs, and contacts. I am will look later to see if you can customize what gets backed up. Had to back up my contacts because I am an impatient bastard and I am going to force 2.1 on my Eris tonight rather than wait for the OTA update.

I personally think the Iphone would be too limited on Verizons network. If I were I you I would be looking at the Incredicle or the Nexus1.
