Azenis
« Reply #2 on: November 24, 2003, 01:17:15 AM »
Inexpensive, stiff sidewall, predictable, and one of the the stickiest compunds for the street.  It's not a coincidence that the top 4 drivers at 2003 Solo II Nationals (STX) and 7 of the top 10 were on Azenis.  There were 5 WRX's out of 12 trophies and 3 of them were on Azenis including #1 and #3 finisher.

The Azenis does get a bit oily when they heat up, so after a couple of laps at the track,  they would start to slip-  but it was very predictable, and still an effective tire at the track.

As for the durability,  I have had great experiences-  but on much lighter cars.  One set on my integra (about 2600lbs) went over 10k mi, 5 autox, and two track days, and were stolen before they were done, but had a decent amount of tread left.  Another set (Miata, about 2250 lbs) has gone 12k mi, 2 autox, and over 200 miles of track duty, and they still have more than half of their tread left.  These are still on the car, and I can take pictures if it would help.

Sorry for the long post, hope this helps.

Tires and rims
« Reply #5 on: January 03, 2004, 09:19:44 PM »
Alright, I do mostly daily driving so what is the best over all tire and light weight rim. I like to have bronze rim.

What would be a good light weight rim and also look good crusing???

17 or plus sizes!!!
Thanks for the info in advance :!:  :!:  :!:  :!:

RIms

There are so many choices!

I'm a fan of bronze wheels, and have a set of Rota Attacks waiting for winter to be over.  As far as I know, they are the lightest 17's (17 x7.5) that Rota makes (about 16lbs). (Correct me if I'm wrong guys)  They are definetely adequate for cruising as Rota's are a favorite of many trackheads because of the combination of price, weight, and strength.  The average price for a set of attacks should be well less then 600 shipped.
My last track wheels were a set of Rota Slipstreams that took a ton of abuse and kept coming back for more.

Check out Rota's website for other styles too.

If you wanted to spend more money, you could go with a forged wheel like the VOLK CE28's.  Really nice wheel,  but a bit of an overkill for just crusing if you ask me.  They cost a pretty penny, and would be lighter than the Rota's.

happy wheel hunting- hth

p.s. this probably should have been a new topic- Mods?

Azenis are DOT legal-  Victoracers are R-compounds-  I should hope Victo's are better.

That said- I'm thinking about Kumho MX's.  Not as sticky, but the tread design is better equipped to handle rain.

I was a bit hesitant this past summer (rain) with my Azenis on the miata-

Grassroots tested the MX, and pulled very similar times on the autox course (a tad slower) compared to the Azenis.

hmmmmm.

Victoracers ARE DOT legal :P hence DOT-R, heheh

anyways, I ran kumho MX's for last season, and I absolutely LOVED them. Ed's got my MX's now and they are nice and heat cycled for him :)

you guys need to come over and check out my DOT legal 40" stack of tires (255s ;) )
