body kit questions
« on: July 01, 2004, 04:35:48 PM »
never had a body kit before so not sure how exactly to go about this.  I just got my full bumper kit and am looking for the best place to take it to for paint.  should i drop off my car and the kit pieces (full front/rear bumpers and side skirts) in the box and have the shop paint the kit and then put it on the car to make sure it all fits good or would it be easier to just have them paint the pieces then bring it home to try and put it on myself?  btw, i am without many tools or a garage.

better to have it put on the car first to make sure it fits right and get any modifications done to it if needed, then paint

It's definately a hassle but you should have the body shop you choose remove and test fit the pieces b4 they even begin the paint/prep process.  If you can leav it with them they usually can have it painted and installed in 2 days. (if there aren't serious problems)

What kit did you end up with? Chargespeed?

i would def, let the bodyshop test fit it first, i had a real bad experence with my old car and the bodykit, nothing fit right and needed fiberglass work before it got painted. So i would leave it up to the pros.

just on warning about the sideskirts. they are designed that you have to remove the little black protector piece by the back door.  If you do you will have a hole. On mine I just put the side skirt over it and moved my holes (where you drill it into the wheelwell) out a little bit.  Since you are test fitting you could have ron remove the black pieces, put on the sides and then cut the black pieces in half so only the half you need would be there.
