High coolant temp, cel, oil pressure light goes on and off? wtf
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:01:40 PM »
Well I'm home from college for 4 days so I did a little work on the car.

-Saggy butt spacers
-Grounding Kit

After I finish, I start the car.  It doesn't start and I get a cel.  I try to start it again, it starts and the cel goes away.  I let the car warm up and then I take it for a 15 minute drive and at some points, I drove the car very aggressively

I get home and the car sits for 2 hours.  I get in it to drive my sister to her friends house, car starts up and gets a cel.  The coolant temp gauge is also maxed out.  I pull the dipstick out, oil is cold.  I get back in the car and the oil pressure light is on.  I tell my sister whats up, look at the cluster and the oil light is off.  I decide to drop my sister off and go find a code reader.

One mile from the house oil light comes back on.  I figure I shouldn't push my luck so I drive back to the house.

WTF!  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

remove the grounding kit and see what happens.

LOL.. What you do... One connection loose?

First make sure you didn't attach a grounding strap somewhere you were not suppose too?   :| not calling ya a dumbass , just saying always keep it simple stupid..

I did mine at the Neg term to the battery... To the Right side Ground connection on the intake manifold. Down to Under dip stick bracket.. Chassis ground strut tower to other side.. to alt body.

You said it had oil.. Did it have enough oil is the question.  The Oil Pressure light comes on I think at like 3 psi  :uglystupid2:

i agree with marty and first check all the connections. then go with spencers idea with removing the kit all together to see if that solves the problem.

also marty...chuck has a ej257 for reference

Well I have no Idea how much oil they consume .. I would assume more ..  :|  But assuming gets you in trouble   I gotta clean my intake out and then possibly look into a Ixiz AOS .. I was thinking of using SeaFoam.. that should be a  good induction service for the Saabaru.. Get some of my lost HP Back..  :buck2:  I bet alot of oil loss is due to oil vapor..  :-P

TO OP .. you could get some Star washers / Star nuts too to get it grippy..   OR some Lock washers of the same size to lock the bolt in place..These go on before washers.. :P

I agree with everyone else, of course, check the grounding kit first.  but...any luck yet on getting that code read?  that would be a big help, might be you knocked something loose while installing the grounding kit, that you might not notice while just checking your connections

Thanks guys. I'll check the grounding kit later today.  Hopefully my friend is home so I can use his code reader.
