Pink springs for sti.
« on: February 15, 2010, 09:10:19 PM »
So I want to improve the handling/ look of my stock suspension sti without killing ride quality. After speaking to some people I was gonna go for some used pink springs(jdm or us) but don't know the difference. They seem to be about 200 for a set used. I was also gonna get a rear sway bar too. I only do 1-2 autocrosses a year for fun so again something not too rad and cheapish. Any suggestions?

Car is my DD and used in winter.

TIA

Why not go with RCE Black/Yellows or Swift Spec-Rs (more performance-oriented springs)?

If you're only going to do one swaybar, do the front.

ive heard the pinks dont always drop every corner the same height, a lot of the time one corner drops a little less than half an inch less than the others, i have some race comp yellows on my sti, they work well with the stock shocks or the ohilns shocks

How much are those springs and are they going to make it bumpy as balls?  This is my DD and I want a blend of performance and comfort.

I thought that the rear sway would have more impact.  Please educate me

I think the rear is regarded as the better option, but if your looking at suspension mods take a gander at this:

Its good info!

the yellows made my car stiff as anything but i also have the ohilns struts which give most of the stiffness, i think my brother has the blue prodrive springs and his car still rides nice and sticks to the road real well

Thanks for info guys.  I think the pinks are prolly the best fit for me, with later a rear swaybar and kartboy endlinks.

IF I was you I would get pinks.. Nice Progressive drop   250ish spring range so it's a nice improvement over lateral transitions on a stock spring. Not as much of a "drop" as other springs out their..

The rear sway bar.. IF the rear is adjustable  put it on Softest spot until you get a front bar  :?  Snap oversteer sucks  :coolsmiley:

Have fun.. Get an alignment after wards if you get springs...

I have had USDM pinks in my 06 since May.  Handles great, very comfortable ride (the GF never complains on bumpy ass Baltimore roads), and not "super hella flush low, yo!"  I can go over traintracks and speed bumps at normal speeds instead of crooked 1 mph jdm style.

Edit:

You will also be able to perform an alignment to factory specs without needing camber bolts and adjustable arms/links.  They are designed to be used w/ factory struts without blowing them out!

Why would you get aligned to OE spec? If you're doing springs for performance, why not get an alignment with performance in mind as well (the only added cost is a set of camber bolts for the rear)?

OE alignment specs because tires are expensive and replacing them in any number other than 4 on a Subaru is not recommended.

I have been staring at messed up tires for a while now and no one likes to hear that a simple 30 minute alignment for $89 could have saved them from buying $1200 worth of new tires.  I don't mind too much, I get a $20 spiff every time I sell someone a new set of tires.  Keep your performance alignment specs, I will keep selling you tires when your cords come through the shoulders!

I put pinks on my old 04 STI and the drop was uneven. Swapped them out for red prodrives and they were awesome. I put Prodrives on my old 2.5RS and they were great also.

Keep in mind that the factory WRX, and to a greater degree STi alignments are biased towards performance over tire wear. So, even the factory alignment will wear tires at a faster than normal rate. You only live once, so -3.5* camber it is.
