did wheels...what tires do people like

235/40/18's, not looking to spend over 150 a tire...looking for something that will last at least 2 summers, maybe 3. As an idea my kdw-2's lasted me 2 summers, put about 15k on them, hard driving.

i think im going with kuhmo again this year, ive been wanting to try the MX's but once again i have a tight budget so im gonna go with the SPT's i used them a few years back and they were awesome on dry and wet, something to look into.

avoid yoko prada spec-2's, unless you only plan on driving in dry conditions, they were horrible in the wet.

Not in that size: $172/each - $50MIR = ~$640 + ~$50 for tax/shipping

I'm running the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires (245/40/17) on my car, and I'm pretty happy with them. They were ranked #2 in C&Ds recent test (behind the Dunlops) - Tirerack has them for $129/tire in your size.

I ran the RT-615s on my car before the Hankooks, and I actually prefer the Hankooks because I had issues with the Falkens in the rain and I ate through them in just over one season (no Auto-Xs, just DD/spirited driving).

I currently have RE-01Rs on my summer wheels and I like the alot too bad they are discontinued. The replacement from Bridgestone ought to be a solid tire though. I've had Azenis (RT-215 and RT-615) too and they are awesome in the dry and from just under full tread to the wear bars. Once they get to low tread or are heat cycled too much then they lose their grip. I found that they heatsoaked quickly in any event other than autox and they wore very quickly too.

I've been itching to try out the New-for-last-year Kuhmo XP or the federal 595-rs... since I love bargin "sport/race" tires... I just have to wait for the RE-01Rs to wear out since they were new last spring.

looks to be that the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is the best combo of price/dry/wet performance with decent treat life imo.

if your working with a real tight budget, here is the cheapest set of tires i could find in that size that were brand new. works out to be almost exactly $300 shipped for the set of 4  :-P

The trick is to find good tires on close-out. I think I paid like $75 a tire for my RE-01R's (225/45/r17) last year when they discontinued them last spring... I got like the last set in the north east.

Ya I was looking for something discounted too...

So im having trouble deciding between 235/40 and 225/40.

Pros of 235 -
Slightly bigger tire, fills wheel well alittle more
slightly nicer ride
alittle more tread to pavement

Cons
bigger than stock diameter ( more rotational mass and effects gearing )
more chance of rubbing ( dont think it will )
few more bucks
heavier

Pros of 225
Almost same overall size as stock tire ( better for gearing, performance )
Cheaper
will easily fit

Cons
Slightly smaller sidewall, more rigid ride
very slight stretched look
alittle less rubber on ground
chance under high corning to wear more of outside edge.

what I dont know is how much negative effect putting a larger overal tire setup than stock effects the drivetrain, any thoughts?

I hear nice thing about the star specs and in retrospec I wish I had gone with them but the kumho ecsta mx's were cheaper at the time so went with them...I chewed up the sidewalls a little 2 auto'x's ( lots of squeakin), 20 drag passes, and DD but they're good for another summer season...

As long as they're within spec of each other (tread depth / circumference), I don't think it matters.

I have absolutely no regret going to 245s on my car. It may be a little more expensive and weigh a bit more as well, but that extra ~1" of traction is great in corners.

get the correct size to compensate and you wont have any issues...

and get what you think you will like, its trial and error.

Bought a set of Potenza RE760 Sport...my boss has a friend that works at a firestone, as was able to get these for 600 mounted and balanced. Thats aboue 40 bucks cheaper than I could of gotten the hankooks's for on tirerack, and I dont have to worry about defects.works out to about 115 a tire if I was getting them off tirerack, which list them for 147. Probably would have rather gotten the hankooks, alittle better tire that I can rotate the inside to the outside incase of camber ware.. but overall a pretty good deal.

I am running 225/18/45 Nexen N3000s. Never had them break loose and excellent in rain. I think I paid $89 per shipped. I drive them pretty hard too. so far I have gotten 2 summers out of them, and they look like I will get 2 more. Also got them from discount tire direct. I had a guy at Monroe try to talk me into the Sunny because he could not get the Nexens. I couldnt find a rating or review on them so I passed.

The best deal I have found for tire installation was at Kost tire on Central Ave by Colonie Center. $75 total if you drop the wheels and tires off to have them mounted and they dont have to touch your car. Assuming you have winter and summer wheels.

And thenI see that you already bought tires..dont drink and post
