PICS ADDED Head light modding tomorrow (Sat)
« on: February 26, 2010, 08:09:02 PM »
Im cracking the sti lights tomorrow and gonna remove the orange and black them out and reseal.  I think jake from JSE enclosures is doing his too.  He might even size up your trunk if you like. Gonna start at 11am ish. Got room for 2 cars at a time in the heated garage. Should have the supplies to do a few sets.  If you wanna swing by and BS or do yours PM me for the location. Might even be beer and pizza later if you wanna throw in a dolla or 2  but not very late as the missus and kids will put the smack down on it :police:

This is an easy mod to do that looks great.

Always good to meet the members of this awesome board :smitten: :2funny:

Fook it. Im going front plate-less. ordered a matt black STI marque plate so we will see how it looks   You can also see my front emblem delete. Came out good.

I was thinking to myself about how I needed to do this less than 10 minutes ago.  If only I knew about this more than a day in advance...

Since you said you should have extra supplies, is there another date I could go to said location to do mine?

All you need is some tools, an oven, plastic spray paint and some black rtv sealant. Only 10 bucks worth. I'll pm you with the links later. Kinda busy at the mo. Once you've read it you will be good to go.
It's also really easy to take thefront suby emblem off the front grill while you are at it, for that clean look

I'm just a little hesitant to cook my headlights in my oven (still living at home, f this economy) and worried it won't seal properly.  If anyone wants to do this at their place I am down haha

I would speculate you would need a brighter head lamp bulb  to retain the same exposure of light on the road ?

Just got done. Looks sick as we did them flat black to match the grill. Thanks to Greg (rs25bg) for the help. Will post pics later!

Most, if not all, of the light looks to be reflected from what has not been painted from this mod.  However I was only an engineer for 3 semesters and I have not researched output differences before and after.

Almost everyone's lights get dimmer but not from the paint.  Natural oils in your hands and stuff on the lenses make them a tad hazy.  My IS300 for instance, was baked and painted, but damn the guy really un-cleared the lenses.

I find mine to already be pretty damn bright so i'd be okay with a slight loss.  I will still use gloves and clean them thoroughly before putting them back together though.

The headlights look good. I'm looking to do the same thing in the near future. Instead of getting a new grill I might have to try the emblem delete, looks clean. Corey

May as well try the delete first. If it goes wrong then you can buy a new grill. Its pretty easy to do. I used barbeque paint for it and the headlights, from lowes.

i would invest in some chrome painted turn signal bulbs.  they still light up amber so the :police: wont bother you but they will eliminate the reflection of the amber bulbs. its makes a big difference IMO

that came out looking really damn good!

as for the bulbs.....they carry them at most car parts stores. I know pep boys carries them, if not in the regular lighting section, look in the 'ricer' section with all the cheasy LED's and fake blue headlights, I think that's where I found them for mine

ooooh, those aren't what I have, mine are more like a shiny blue glass but still light up amber.....I might switch to those next time a bulb goes out

yea there pretty sweet and still light up amber perfectly as if they werent painted. you can also paint them yourself if you want...a thin layer of chrome paint over your stock ones should do the trick :D

That makes at least two of us.  Maybe we make a small meet out of it somewhere... Anyone else intereted

Btw, I think the emblem delete will look good, but headlight modding will look GREAT!
