Best damn wheel/tire calculator ever!
« on: March 09, 2010, 10:41:25 AM »
Just found a link to this and had to share

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

Great details for rims and tire size comparison.  Only problem is the width of the frame is screwed up, but if you unclick the "Show Tire" option you can enter the rim info first, then click Show Tire again and it will keep the rim data in place

corey the proper way to use it is to plug in your stock information on the left and then what you want on the right. then underneath it all it will give you the difference like percentage it will change in your speedometer, how much it will fill out your wheel wells, how much it will stick out further or not as far, etc.

the actual info at the bottom was great for when you're close and need to look closer at the numbers.....but i like how there's an outline of the wheel and tire in the background of the image, so you can see at a glance how the sizes compare in a visual way, instead of reading numbers

Nice!

the only thing i don't like is that it doesn't show the side wall height.  I mean you can adjust it but there isn't a visual marking on the display of the tire.

is it just me, or has this changed since yesterday?
I no longer see the option to show/hide the tire section, and it won't give me the numerical results at the bottom

love that tool...makes it so easy to figure out what will clear your suspension, and how agressive you are going to have to be in fender rolling/pulling and adding camber.

hmmm, while I like the idea of including offset......that calculator tells me that the wheels that are currently on my blue car are about 15mm through the strut  :2funny:
17x7.5 +53  (measurements of '04 sti wheels and v7 sti wheels)

Now, if they took that same calculator, included a place for you to measure the depth of the hub, the height to the base of the spring perch, height to the top of the spring perch and the diameter of the spring perch.....that would cover everything except caliper clearance (since that varies depending on wheel design)

maybe I should fiddle around with making one

I updated the link in the first post.
And changed my opinion about the most recently posted one after looking over this old one again.  I think the original one I posted gives much more in depth details for the results, and I forgot it does include offset as well.

Still, would be cool to make one that had presets for our specific hub depth, stock strut size/shape and maybe even fender area......could probably be worked out with the data given in the repair manuals, would just have to figure out how to put all that data into a usable tool  :uglystupid2:
