wrx exhaust question
« on: July 11, 2004, 03:16:37 PM »
Was installing my Greddy EVO2 exhaust today and it doesnt fit.  my question is does the regular WRX catalytic converter have the ring on it that creates the seal with a catback exhaust like the STi does.  not sure how to really describe the thing but its like a metal donut instead of a gasket and you use these PITA spring bolts with it.  my old Bosal exhaust came with a flared end that would seal with this metal donut but the greddy doesnt.  was wondering if maybe they sent me the wrong model since the STi one and regular wrx have different part numbers.  Is the only thing i can think of atm until i can call the place i bought it from tomorrow

i think you are refering to the metal donut gasket on the end of the mid pipe.  Yes the wrx exhaust uses a donut shaped gasket.  it sounds like you just need a 3" exhaust gasket to replace the donut, and then use your spring bolts.

the greddy came with 2 gaskets.  one of which is big enough to fit around the donut but the midpipe wont even come close to fitting around the donut so theres no use even having that gasket in there.  can the metal donut be taken out so the flanges are flush?  i thought the donut was actually part of the catalytic converter.  :?

yeah you can remove the donut. Just tap it with a hammer and wedge in a screwdriver. it will slide right off.

otherwise...yeah like stylesrex said.
