Kavik's Wagon a beggining phase..
« on: April 09, 2010, 07:37:38 PM »
:-o  Just a few shots for now..
Daryl, came over today we spent about two hours working on the front of his car :smitten:

I was amazed to see how much fade he had going on his car  :buck2: We were able to not only bring in some shine .. But bring in some Color too.. She just needs some subaru loving hands..

Front Bumper 50 /50

Hood

I think with some Glaze and wax she is really gonna shine when I am done with her..

That looks awesome, Daryl! I had the chance to see Marty do a touch-up to his car when I went to the Bear Mountain meet a few years ago, and it's truly a work of art with him.

i'm not sure what you're asking about?
i still have some damaged parts that need repair and paint, yes.
i still would like to do the vinyl on the roof and part of the bumper to save on repairs, yes.

but i never had plans to re-paint the whole thing

This is what I was referring to.

Didn't say it in my first post but the color looks so much lively now.

My small contribution: While waiting to get the rest of the work done with Marty (my scheduling sucks), I just did a little more cleaning up of the faded black trim.  It was a mess of old built up crud, so he had me wiping it down with alcohol to remove the grime......well, here's a couple pics of how I spent my lunch

This is a close up of a spot i started.  I drew in the red lines so you can see that I worked below that mark, and see how grey and coarse the surface was above that point?

and this is that section finished

Lookin' forward to this weekend Marty

edit: crappy cell phone pic didn't do that first image justice for just how bad it was....but it gives you the idea

The stronger balance is the higher Percentage.. the higher percentage is less Rubbing.  that's all..

:-D  well, I went and looked, it's 70%, and I only rubbed a little at a time, then moved to the next section so that could dry and I could see if it was good or if it needed going over again.  I'd like to think I did okay and didn't over do any part of it.  I'm sure you'll tell me when you see it up close  :-D :-P

It took me a minute to realize you were referring to Isopropyl Alcohol, not India Pale Ale .  I didn't know it worked that well on rubber, but now I do.  Looks good.

Consider conditioning the rubber afterwards. IA can (and will) dry out rubber parts in the long haul. DAMHIKT.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

yeah, I'm going to look around for some sort of condtioner or whatever that will keep it black and shiney....was just going to wait untill the detail is finished, in case any of the rubber/plastic gets anything on it during the process

I'd ask if you had any suggestions on what to use, but it sounds like you're speaking from experience of not using anything?

Yes, I used nothing and wound up with grayed/weathered/cracked rubber and plastic bits. I'm a fan of Meguiars products for price/performance but I'm no expert.

I've only done budget resto's on old cars, not much on newer cars.
