Tint %
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:36:48 AM »
I've always been a believer in not giving police officers any unnecessary reason to issue a traffic stop, but lately have been relaxing a bit on this.

My car came tinted on all 5 windows. In an effort to reduce unwanted attention, I had the front tint removed. There are sections on at least one of the back window where the tint is beginning to peel, so it may be time to get it redone.

I never really focused too much on what the car looked like - I hardly ever wash it, and haven't invested much money into exterior "bling". I think I want to hold off on performance parts for a while and focus on what I already have (and have waited 6+ months to install) and adding some little things to enhance the aesthetics a little bit. A few things I'd like to do is get better mudflaps (the ones I have now really look like shit) and one of the lightbars with 2 driving/fog lights.

I was actually thinking about getting 15-20% all around. My "stance" isn't too aggressive (RCE Blacks | 245/40/17s on the OEM BBSs), so do you guys think tint that dark would look "out of place"? What are people in this area running and how much harassment have you gotten?

Thanks!

that sounds sooo dark.....I'd be thinking more in the 35 range. subtle, looks good, you can still see something at night without rolling down your windows

I never had a problem until last week I was pulled over JUST for tint. Cop was looking to get more on me. He gave me the ticket and I just had a buddy sign off on it so I didn't have to peel them. Worst part was it was right near your house. I was on 7 between schoharie and duanesburg. Damn troopers.

What was it tinted to?

Go big or go home, right? haha

I think my back three are 35% and it seems too light for me

What % do you have?

I have hardly ever seen a cop between them - inside the municipal limits, however, is a different story. Good ending, at least

On lighter cars tint stands out more (silver, white).  Is really easy to spot.  The lexus is dark out back but I have no clue how bad...cops leave me alone because I don't have a scoop or wing and the car's dark.

I drive that stretch all the time and have only seen one trooper. Out in Cobleskill I see them everyday....

I park in front of a police station every night and also have an illegal exhaust.  :police:

My advise would be to not get window tint.  NYS is cracking down, i've been pulled over 4 times in the last 3 weeks, included once yesterday.  Of the 4 times i've received 3 tickets, despite telling the officers that i had just sent in a ticket to the courthouse(s) a week prior.  I would highly not recommend it, every time i have been doing the speed limit btw and pulled over for that reason only

like I said before and like jake, i was also pulled over for just tints only this was my FIRST time ever. Maybe they are cracking down. If you know a cop though you can get away with it. I am blacked out in the rear and 35 up front.

hey, 50 is better than nothing.  I was actually thinking about doing 35 rear and 50 front, just to play it safe.

some people are more interested in the actual shade it provides more than how it looks from the outside  :crazy2:

You're crazy, but not for this.  IF my IS300 wasn't tinted when I got it, I would've restricted it to 50ish as well.  But it came with drug dealer tint.

i'd have to say darker looks better on a black car anyway Dave, not drug dealer dark, but darker than 50.  my 2 cents  :-)

I have it on good authority from chiefs in three municipalities around here on what some of the officers are searching for to pull in good revenue.   You hit a primary one, believe it or not.
