Turbo for my RS...
« on: July 29, 2004, 11:59:06 AM »
Ok so i started to take a LOOK at some turbo options for the RS... note that this is looking...

Ive found a couple of Options, the most power claim from what ive found was the AVO kit which seems to be tested a fair amount. That would run me around 5k with me only having to purchase a Catback exhaust.

there is also the Forced air tech, stg 2 kit, which seems to be the same as far as catback being the only thing missing. thats around 3.5k

does anyone know the reliabilty issues for these kits, I know both are designed to be run around 6psi, Note my motor has about 115k miles on it. Mostly highway miles, however i dont wanna invest this money and have the motor get blown in a few months.

any input would be greatly appreciated...

Turbo for my RS...

I'll give my input. I've done extensive research on the Forced Air Technologies turbo kits and haven't heard anything negative about them. A guy in my car club had a F.A.T. stage 1 turbo kit installed on his '99 Impreza L and he had nothing but good things to say about it. Granted he was running it on a different engine, but he was raving how good the service at F.A.T. was and how helpful the owner Robert was. In fact he had his car turboed for 3 years, during which we had some of the harshest weather here in recent times. He did not have one single problem with his vehicle the entire time he ran it with the turbo. It was his everyday driver and he drove it quite hard. The only preparation he did to his car to accomodate the added power was an upgraded clutch (I can't recall which one he bought). This acquaintance in my car club talked so highly of F.A.T. that I decided to purchase their stage 1 kit for my '00 RS (which right now I'm waiting for them to ship). Now I can't speak from experience as my car is not turboed yet, but from what others have told me F.A.T. kits are extremely reliable and are made of only the highest quality components. I can say that I've called the owner, Robert, countless times and every single time I've spoken with him he was more than willing to answer any and all my questions. He's very down to earth and didn't beat around the bush. IMO he was all about customer service. I can't stress how helpful he was. My friend's stage 1 kit was installed and tuned by Robert at F.A.T. and he ran a 13.6 in the 1/4 mile on 91 octane. Not bad for an old '99 Impreza L huh?
