'92 SVX
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:18:23 PM »
So, I just test drove a '92 SVX...it's in very good condition, and I think I'm going to buy it. Anything in particular anyone knows about them?

Discuss.

It kills me cause on my way to work, I've watched one sit in this RV parking area for like two years.   Its like someone was storing it but its open to all elements.

personally not my first choice for a subaru...but everyone has their likes and dislikes.

only reasons being...they are heavy and only ever came in automatic.

nonetheless good luck with it man!

When I was getting my tattoo today there was a plate on the wall that said '92 SVX and had some oriental writing on it. I know completely unrelated but I found it a stunning coincidence.

A girl I was trying to bang in HS had one, I loved it.

Manual swap kits are available.  Aforementioned Letitsnow has it swapped.  There really isn't a ton of aftermarket support for these cars, but for their age and weight they are incredibly fast.  If the law allowed it, they are capable of cruising all day at 120+.

ive ALWAYS loved SVX's ever since the first one i ever saw back in the late 90's when a buddy in high school picked one up. in there time, they were quite the sports car and still are almost 20 years later. that and there super rare, especially with 100k mileage or less in good condition.

the one benji is picking up is meticulous and the current owner is a 20+ year certified subaru master mechanic that took fantastic care of the car. i think he is going to love it.

Yeah, this car has got 102k miles on it. It's really ugly (The paint job), but it's in wonderful condition. I'm getting a bit more excited about it. It's just a car that you don't see very often, so it should be fun.

Research the hell out of it dude, don't want to get burned.  I know rear wheel bearings were a common point of failure but not much else.

Yeah, after looking I have found out about the wheel bearings and the MAF sensors. Thankfully, this dude just replaced the MAF and all the wheel bearings have been replaced in the last 20k miles.  :-) This dude seems to be pretty anal about his stuff.

This car?

I can see why one might think the paint job is...uh interesting.  Who really cares as long as its mechanically sound.

you know, that is nowhere near as bad as what I was expecting.  There's a dark green one with lightning bolts or flames or some shit rolling around Latham.

Hahaha! Yeah, it's that car. It runs really good. It's pretty ugly in my opinion...but if I make enough money on my part-out...then I will get it repainted something pretty. No lightning bolts though. Haha.

Well from when I was looking at these cars make sure you get an oil cooler for the tranny or else get ready to replace it because they had a hard time holding power. What ever the original color of the care was is what you are going to want to get it painted unless you plan on painting the door jars etc which gets pretty expensive. Good luck with the part out, now just 5spd swap that thing.
