Finally got it, after being back ordered for like 5 months... works great, love that i can switch maps without using flashes. the economy mode also works great, got around 100 miles and my tank was still showing full.

I'm also running an AP.  I'm very happy with it.  I'm not planning on going nuts with my car (Cobb Stage 2 is enough for me), so I decided the AP suited me the best.

I think for most of the guys (that post) on the board, AP would not satisfy their tuning needs, but for me- it is suffice.
Stage 1 93 Oct is a distinguishable difference over stock.  It smoothed out power delievery (no more "stutter hesitations" before boost) and pulls a bit harder than stock.

Let me know if anyone is thinking of going this route.

I've had mine for a couple weeks now.  I'd finally gotten used to it, then I did a revert-to-stock to bring the car in to the dealer for an oil change.  What a difference!  The car felt like crap in comparison without AP Stage 1 running.

Ed,
I realize AP is easy to switch with, but you really don't need to go back and forth to 'stock' every time you go to the dealer.  Before I bought my '05 STI, I spent a while speaking with a Service Tech, Service Advisor and even the Service Manager @ Goldstein...I wanted to find out just what the SOP was upon a visit to the Service Department.  According to each person I spoke with, there would be no reason to do diagnostic scanning that would indicate your car had been modified with AP, unless you had a CEL of some kind.

On another note, my only regret is that I had AP stage2 installed on my STI 2 days after I bought it, so I never knew what a stock one drove like.

I also got mine used.

(I thought I posted this right after timmah did- guess not)

I think Zanardi is right- there is no need for the dealer to SCAN your ecu with out a CEL on.  In fact, if I remember correctly, I was running stage 1 when my car was "smogged" this year" - and if the service tech detected anything- he didn't say anything.

It's nice to be able to revert back to "stock" just in case.

I'm in the AP group now it looks like.  how are you guys liking yours?

I just made a hasty decision to buy one.  I hope it is the right one.

I would have liked to have gone with utec, but it wasn't possible.  besides, I think the AP will hold me over until whenever Cobb finally decides to release the AccessTuner.

My friend in WI (with the sick 02-PE1820 & JDM STi 6MT) told me to never go w/ Cobb.  but the conservativity of the Cobb is attractive to me.  I'd love a UTEC, but all the tuning parameters of it scares me a bit :(

aren't they the same price???

With the UTEC you have thousands of maps available to you for just about every combination known to man...

The big thing I don't like about the UTEC is that the factory ecu learns around it.

AP is usually about $500 used and I think I've seen a couple used UTECs go for $650- but most of them go for way over that.  I think everyone will agree you can do much more with a UTEC- but for users that aren't going to go mod crazy- the AP is priced very competitively

Red, I don't know if AP will have enough maps to satisfy you- but AP holds it's value very well, so you can always sell it when your mods outgrow it.

Cobb is infamous for pushing back release dates, but I think they have set a date for Street Tuner to come out soon.

i might use the AP for now, and if I dont like it, I'll take the $$$ I was going to use to buy springs & a rear sway, buy a UTEC instead, have that installed and then sell the AP and buy the springs & rear sway bar, we'll see.

when I was going to get a utec I felt that I was getting in over my head, but at the same time I like how each little thing can be changed.  not so with the AP.

I dont really have any plans to go bigger than the VF34 (but who knows haha), so I should be fine, but we'll see.

Red-

I love my Accessport.  Stage 2 is a huge difference over running the stock ecu with a turbo back and up pipe.  You will enjoy it.  I'm hitting target boost of 15.6 PSI.  Car is much more responsive thru the whole rpm range.

Cobb just released some new maps today so keep an eye out for those.

I guess there was a problem of one guy installing the updates when all the bugs hadn't been worked out... seems everything should be all right now though

I think Im going to try to hunt down a compy I can use that has a serial port tomorrow morning and get the update done. Im already pushing it real close with my spark plugs (I hope like hell they get here on time, haha) and I dont want to push it close with waiting for my cable from newegg either.  I ordered it last night and selected two day shipping thinking it would be here monday and I'd have plenty of time, but it won't be here til tuesday those bastards
I dont want to push it so I'll try to get the update done over the weekend.

Why oh why does cobb elect to use a serial cable and not a usb connector :(
I noticed they changed that with the StreetTuner.. and it comes out MARCH 2ND!  wow that's quick for cobb hahaha

do you have the update downloaded already?
Do you have a USB drive or anything?

my car computer has serial, that's what I use to run the HYDRA.
I could hook up the accessport and transfer the update.

just be careful.  with this update you have to unmarry the accessport (flash your car back to stock) and then update the accessport itself.  then download new maps and reflash your car.
