Remember our talk about them last time we chilled?    Told you they would do some crazy shit... I am soo glad it's over too..

My new company just  got a 1.5milllion dollar contract from a customer..

My last company.. yea we can have Martin install that for you for 1845 bucks...  :2funny:

Fresh Market on Route 9 Latham..

HAHAH

And as you can see I had "ALL KINDS OF ROOM" placing this hunk of Junk with a fucking  Lull! HAHHAHHA

How's that for Square MotherFuckers.. Then your gonna bitch because I am off by 1/2 a inch due to loss of material and you had supplied 37 inch sheet steel instead of 40? So I had what 3 inches of lost material all the way around the chute . I think I did fucking great  considering what I had to do..

Like Fucking but weld the entire seam inside and out.
Weld the entire door jam at 1/16th of a inch thick without burning through welding vertically Which is very hard to do.. Ect..

I do some quality work mofo...

WSW Gets Neg karma  Total-Tool +1

Can't fucking wait.. I have been reviewing some youtube videos on Car lifts becoming familiar with the use and operation..
Thus increasing my understanding of the basic operations of the unit.

Symetrical // Assymetrical Lifts ect..

Man those Hunter Wheel machines look fucking FUN / AWESOME to work on!!  I tell you honestly I think the machine part I will pretty much just nail down.. It looks a lot less complicated than working on Multistage Baling, Compacting systems.. Lifts use One cylinder as storage for oil instead of a resevoir.. the outside resevoir uses only approx 3 gallons , The regen to the other cylinder can go over or under the car..

Some new things to me include cable cord. with pulleys .. I Can't believe these are even used in the industry and other what not ends like Roller chain instead of Cable cord..

I think the only thing about this job that is new to me.. is Oil furnaces and boilers, air compressors.. ect.. but
WTF how hard is that, when you can understand all of this and still love cars ect.. your around what you love the entire time you are working ..
HOW FUCKING COOL IS THAT?

Wait on the BCS install until you have a tuning appointment, and do it in their driveway.

ok, so my first week down at DOL unemployment office.  Bah phone jobs suck but is my foot in the door. If you were ever to lose your job and need unemployment, Im who you would call, or to check on your claim.  Anyways, one thing that kinda surprised me since it is the state...no drug test.  Do they not do them anymore.  Not that it matters, I would pass would flying colors but every job I have had, even a thruway reststop job, tested.   Im happy about this.  i feel they shouldn't test unless you gave them reason....well, depending on the type of job, of course.

I peed in a dixie cup at the water cooler last Friday, and apparently that didn't evoke the deep conversation that I hoped it would.  So, then I had to pee in "The Cup".  Totally different things apparently.

Beat me to the punch!  Peeing in a cup in your office is usually grounds for an investigation of some kind.

So I am probably jinxing myself by talking about this but I just had to share. I have been at my current compnay for the last 8 years where we build MRIs. Moved up from small component test, full magnet test, to occasional Field Service jobs to Foreman of the whole Test Dept for the last 4 years. I have been trying to figure out where I would like my next step to be. A few years back there were rumblings of some promotions in the FS dept and maybe me moving into the FS Supervisor position. They turned out to be rumblings.

This morning during our 10 oclock break the FS manager and supervisor approached and asked what my plans are and where I see myself in the company. I told them I didn't want to be a Foreman my whole life and career and could see myself in a customer oriented field at some point. At which point they asked me if I would take the FS Supervisor position. I said I would. They offered it to my supervisor and he didnt want it so they offered it to me. The Manager said he would start talking to people and try to get the ball rolling.

I asked about travel and pay. The travel seems right about 1 trip a year. The pay is where we are going to have a sticking point. I am hourly now and this job would be salary and  have me leashed to a phone 24/7 becuase I would be respsonsible for timely repair of magnets around the world. They initial figure they gave me was around $15k less than the most I have made a year with over time in my hourly posistion. If I were to take a promotion I would have to get near or more than what I could make hourly with OT. Why would I take a job with more responsibilty and on call status for about the same money I make now, when I can make more money in my current job? I would have a lot more responsibilty with fewr people working for me.

So I am going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that I hear something in the next few weeks and this dosen't fizzle out on me.

This promotion would get me off the production floor and into the offices out front.

and hopefully when you explain the salary issue they will see it from your point of view.  you're right, it won't be worth the added headaches for close to what you get now

Niice.  Hope it works out for you.  Phillips ?   Any open positions ?  GE basically just offered me a Field Technician job, but thought that they would offer me $6,500 less a year to do it, w/ a ton more responsibilities.  I'm pretty sick of the GE bullshit, and am interviewing w/ Honeywell and others this and next week.  Either way, I hope it works out for you man.  GL !

Edit;  Reading this makes me so fucking pissed off.  Employers are playing the "the economy is bad" card and offering peanuts where it should be fillet, which is a fucking joke if you're in a technical position, because guess what, this is Tech Valley motherfucker, there are plenty of technical jobs.

Yes Philips. I don't think there are any openings right now. We are setup so our production rate requires OT to make the demands. That way if the demand slows for a bit we dont have to worry about layoffs and rehires when/if the demand picked back up. So for our demand now we are fully staffed. I know the FS guy here is a little tired and may be looking else where. If he is I will keep you in mind.

That's a smart move on their part, and IMO, a good business tactic.  Again, I hope you get what you want in role and $$.   Yeah, def keep me in mind, I'd really appreciate it.  I was going to be doing International and Domestic travel, w/ additional in-house responsibilities, so offering so much less was a joke.  You know what I'm talking about...

I went up and talked to my inside source that knows about a lot of stuff they were not allowed to talk about. Their facial expressions kind of agreed with where I was going with my questioning. It seems the FS manager is moving up to another position and the Supervisor could be moving up to the Manager position which leaves the Supervisor slot open for me. The only thing is the current Supervisor is very abrasive, confrontational and has had some issues within the company. In my mind it makes me feel that he is not a garauntee for the promotion.

If everything does go as planned and the only sticking point is the salary, my pitch will be "I am going to make $X either way you look at, if I can't get it in salary in the new position I am going to make it in OT in my current position. Where would you rather pay me?"

"A Lower initial salary.  Then we can control the amount of overtime you are allowed and protect our bottom line without setting foot wrong on a salary contract."

Be careful with that pitch.  Could backfire.

It could definitely backfire but the money I have been making in OT has been with restrictions, by company and self imposed. I am not killing myself in here every weekend working 10 hour days to make that much. When I do come in for OT it is normally for 4 hours on a Sat or Sunday. But I do see your point. I wouldn't walk in there and be rigid and stern on my proposal but I would be explaining to them what the truth of the matter is.
