Roof Rails
« on: June 13, 2010, 12:45:47 PM »
What do you guys know about getting something cheap to fit the factory roof rails?
What to plug into a search?
Do you guys know what the good products are?
What have you used to what degree of success?

I've seen a few cross bars around but nothing that stood out as "had to have it"

What do you plan on using it for?  there are cargo carriers, bike racks, ski racks, canoe racks, etc etc.  That might help get some more specific answers

There's always the factory cross bars  (like these here).  They run about $75-ish used....there's almost always some floating around in the larger for sale forums from the people who like to get rid of the rails on the wagons

Actually, here's a set for $40 plus shipping: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2004335&highlight=cross+bar
Then you just look around for the specific attachments for what you need to carry

That looks like the base for what I'm looking for. Basically the cross bars, feet, and clips.
I'm looking to carry a bit of everything, canoe, kayaks, bikes, skis, snowboards.
Bikes might end up on a back rack, they're a bit more awkward  to hoist up on the the roof, and I've seen a few friends end up needing a new window due to a little slip.

Yeah, speaking of bases to build from, do you already have a hitch to mount the bike rack to?
Fred (our parts guy over at Capitaland in Scotia) has one for sale dirt cheap here http://www.unysoc.org/board/index.php/topic,7303.0.html

otherwise, he's also parting out a wrx, windows are like $25 in case of slips  :2funny:
