New to Subaru
« on: July 18, 2010, 06:10:47 PM »
Greetings and salutations,

I purchased an 02 wagon a few weeks ago with 188K on it. I am focusing on changing all the fluids first and from some research it seems the only recommended coolant is genuine Subaru and to use a Wynn power flush III system. Can a flush be done effectively on these cars in the driveway? Who is the local go to dealer (I am located just east of Albany) for coolant or is there a safe/suggested aftermarket?

I have been driving Audi Quattro's for about a decade and am so far very impressed with this car.

518-399-9999 Capital Land Subaru GMC  ask to speak to Fred in Parts

yes you want Genuine subaru coolant .. AND the Additive for it..

he can also get you some Extra-S synthetic oil for your transmission and Differential for your fluid change..  :smitten: Extra-S is the shit..

Fred is the Forums Dealer contact, Not only that but where else can you get 10% off anything over the counter from the dealer because you  are on this board?!

He also does a shit load of car part outs.. So if you are looking for something stock or aftermarket chances are he has it before you go looking ...

Welcome to the "Soc" We take care of our own here..

P.S. If you need a Detail hit me up, or want some help installing anything .. LMK

if i have it right, i think that these radiators are meant to be drained and filled, not flushed. or was it the trans that was drain and flush? might be both, or none. some one help me out here lol

welcome to the board! love to see more bugeye wagons around  :coolsmiley:

when I was replacing my radiator, everything I read and everyone I talked to said to use subaru coolant on a stock radiator, or regular green generic coolant if replacing with a full aluminum radiator.  I assume yours is the stock one with the plastic top?

and like others said, just drain and fill.  never know what you might dislodge with a flush, clog the system or spring a leak....especially with that high mileage

what color's the wagon? pics are good

Hey everyone thanks for the replies, this seems like a great board

The car is a PSM WRX wagon, I'll put up some pics soon as I resize 'em.

The only mods I can tell are K&N intake and a front strut brace.

Fluids should be here tomorrow from Fred who was a great help over the phone.

My '89 80 Quattro was a tank and IMHO a better car but alas the joys of owning a 22 year old German car for a DD were over for me. And now, after a year or so of searching I have purchased a '05 Tacoma TRD and am selling the WRX. I shouldn't keep both and can't tow with the WRX so I am letting it go  :-(
