whole family switched over to Iphones and so did all my employees who I supplied phones for. EVERY person has called me thanking me for the change. This phone is better for us low tech techies.

Since all your people have the iPhone now are any of them selling newer Droids? I hvae the Eris and it is just too small and slow to be effective, so I am looking to upgrade and not become an iHole.

Yep... have someone here interested in a Droid 1 as he's losing his company phone soon.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

I figured I would give my input.  I have a Droid 2 (so does my wife, buy one get one free) and we both like them a lot and have had no problems that the very occasional restart can't fix.  We are not technophiles in anyway, and half the stuff this thread is talking about mystifies me.  For those out there like me, the Droid is a great phone...especially if you have a distaste for i-big brother...

never thought I would be the one sticking up for mac (always hated the company and the tech) however, as a person who has owned and used both, the iPhone is a much better phone. My droids were all original droids so I can not say much for the next gens of the tech (im sure it only got better).

If your one of those "big brother" haters then an iPhone should be the least of your worries. You think the droid is only phone off of the gov't radar?? I am not pro-invasion of privacy but I have nothing to hide if someone is listening. Then again, I am not planning on blowing up buildings or killing babies.

Any of them available, by chance?

I have no illusions as to my vulnerability to invasions of privacy.  If I did, I'm pretty sure I'd have had to leave the country after the passing of the "Patriot Act"...  My distaste for i-anything stems more from a consideration of Apple's asserting itself as big brother rather than thinking of the government in the traditional Orwellian sense.  If the government feels the need to moderate my activity, then I have to endure it (to a point...).  Private companies, however, are a different story.   I disagree with their company model and, as a personal choice, avoid Apple products.  I am not saying one is better than the other.  Like you, I have nothing to hide.  If the government wants to listen to my boring ass conversations, my only complaint would be that it's a waste of taxpayer money...

Oh, and back to topic.  I like my Droid is all.

but you didn't find it the least bit odd that in order to use a phone you have to sign up for a google account?  That bugged the hell out of me.  Do you really think google monitors users less than apple?  Didn't they have a bunch of issues in the past over storing and reporting on users search queries?

All the large companies do it. If they do not the info is just stolen through other means.

I just rant anti droid now cuz mine pissed me off so bad or two years

You can use the phone without a google account, FWIW. Just not the Market, or GMAIL (obviously, since thats a google account). My boss uses his DroidX fully sans market for internet/corporate email/even apps that we install for him without any google connection.

huh, I wasn't able to walk away from the verizon kiosk without them telling me I had to set up the account to make sure everything worked before leaving. Maybe they just don't like letting you know that it's not required?
i could care less about gmail, but without the market sounds like it'd be a lot less fun

Yeah... we got our Droids in a box mixed with 70 Blackberries. Corporate order.

Its not hard to install apps via apk, once you get Astro installed (which, for someone that is tech savvy, isnt hard either). I agree that its pretty terrible that you have to have a google account to use the Market. It should only require some kind of account in order to download pay-for apps, and even then, a simple (but annoying, on the phone) credit card input screen would suffice. I suppose its more secure by never typing in your CC numbers, but all the same...

eh, they could always link it to the verizon account and bill to your monthly statement if they wanted to.  I know the texas hold 'em game I have has the option of billing to your phone for buying more chips (I guess if you're so addicted to gambling that it's worth it to you to pay for fake chips ), so that proves that it's doable

I haven't tried Astro. The main thing I was interested in that I heard it did was letting you do the smaller icons, but I use Elixer for that.  It's a pain in the ass because you can't resize the area for the icons without redoing the whole thing, but it has some nice features so I didn't bother changing it up yet

all purchases used to go on your bill. This method for billing is much better. A lot of people have company phones and would never be able to purchase anything if it was against company policy (like mine). Being able to buy them off the phone with paypal or a credit card was a nice step forward for me. The option, however, would be nice.

my apologies, haha. I had the answer and then went on a tangent. I have 4 original droids but as a person who has broken every phone I have ever owned I like to keep a back up. That is the current purpose of each of them. they are all being used as back up phones. sorry holmes.

oh my god, I just choked when I read that Devin  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:
+karma to you every time I think about it for the rest of the day

p.s.
is there any way to really tell if a specific app is causing issues? I'm not even sure where to look, or what I'd be looking for even.
I'm begining to wonder about Elixer and ES Security.  Those are the only 2 things that are running all the time that didn't come with the phone

Uninstall every app one by one until the problem stops. If it doesn't, wipe, reload, see if it still happens.

Last resort, get a replacement from VZW.

Btw, I've had every Droid under the sun. None have had problems, but then again they've all been rooted so I know what's installed and what isn't.

Lol, check the first post. Those were my backups, all of them.

I've consolidated since then. Only have a Nexus One backing up my G2. I'm so proud of myself.

Can a Droid pair with an iPod touch and share data and photos? Does the bump app work over wifi? I have some pics on my phone that I want to move to my touch.

Copy pics from iPod Touch to computer.
copy pics from computer to Android phone.

More difficult than bump, but its guaranteed to work.
