Crash thread
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:51:08 PM »
I just thought about my cars and said well hell. "Both my last 2 non subies where crashed up bad. I should make a crash thread"

So here it is....Tell us about your worst crash in your car, with you in it, or came out to see it.

I might have pics of the 04 accord when it got hit, I gotta find it...those are nice ones.

Anyhow:

02 Civic-RIP

Driving down the sprain brook parkway. car was dropped on tein springs, hugged road, had good all seasons on the car. Getting off the exit to go onto central ave, its about a 30-40 degree sweeping turn to the right, as I enter the turn at 40 (mind you, I've taken this turn at 60 with no tire screech before) the back end comes around as I hit black ice. Back end slides onto the grass divider and car slides completely into the grass as I lose traction. Car then proceeds into the concrete divider @ 40mph rear end first. Bent the frame like an acordian, the car then slid around to the passanger side and smashed the entire passanger side of the car, door wouldn't even open. Thankfully, I only had a bruised kidney and some bumps.

04 Accord-Survived

I have to find pics of this one. I come down from my apartment, it had snowed the night previous but nothing bad. "la la la la, I'm going to work on a sunday, this sucks. lalalala......I thought I parked my car there where there is a big empty spot across the street." I look around "hmm, maybe I fucked up and thought I parked there, let me check around the corner." I walk all the fuck around a city block, No car, so I walk back to where I thought I parked. "where the fuc.....WHAT THE FUCK!?!"

Oh my car was there, it was just on the sidewalk. With pretty much no driver side rear end left. It was a hit and run in the middle of the night and my car had approx 14,500 worth of damage and they didn't total it. Thank GOD it was a lease. I have to find pics of that one.

in for pics on the accord definitely

here's mine: '02 wrx sedan

I forget the time, but it was dark, and it was february, and it was freakin' bitter cold and windy out.  I took a drive up route 7 heading towards Duanseburg.  There was snow on the ground, but it hadn't snowed in days so the roads were perfectly clear.
So I'm doing between 50 and 60 in a 55 when I come around a long sweeping curve in the road.  When I get just about to the end of the curve I suddenly have a snow drift in front of me across the whole road.  It was a strip about a quarter mile long with a wide open field next to the road, nothing stopped the snow from blowing across.
I don't know for sure how deep it was, but it was deep enough to hit my bumper.  I fish-tailed probably 4 or 5 times before I lost it, unable to get the car to slow very much in the icy snowy mix, and it spun out and I went backwards into the ditch on the other side of the road still doing 40-50mph.  Tail end hit the opposite bank of the ditch, car whipped around and slammed the drivers side into the other side so the car stopped facing forward again, rear right and front left tires on the ground, rest of the car in the air straddling a smll frozen creek at the bottom of a roughly 4' deep ditch.

If I had kept it from spinning out for 1 more second I would have gone through a phone pole instead of into a ditch.  If I had passed the phone pole then I would've gone into the side of a cement brige leading to a driveway.

I walked away with a bruise on my shin, a sore neck, and a bump on the top of my head.....luckiest day of my life so far

Last time I crashed was 13 years ago. My friends and I bought a 1982 Mercury Zephyr for $250 from the local "junkyard" (AKA the local scumbag). We drove it to my house 3 miles away w/out Reg, Plates, Inspection, etc.  Broke all of the glass out in my driveway w/ a tire iron, then jumped in wearing the cheesiest open face motorcycle helmets possible, drove that sucker to the "back-tracks" (old tore up train tracks, just dirt) drove it, jumped it, beat it, and to end the day, we decided to roll that fucker....hard.  It was a terrible idea, and 2 out of 3 people got hurt but were OK considering, as we at that point had no clue how fast was "too fast" to be rolling a car on purpose.   I was a stupid stupid kid.

I have had three of my cars hit something and I was only driving two of them.
1st car- '99 Honda Civic Ex coupe:
I was 16, just took my car over to have the exhaust fixed at Black Paris's house (car sat for 3 months until i got my licence).  Mind you that he lives on a dirt road with a few blind turns wide enough for 1 and 1/2 cars.  I took the roads over to his house fast because I felt like I could (fast being 65-70mph) and nothing happened.  We worked for a few hours on it and finished, he told me to take it for a spin to make sure that his weld was going to hold.  I took out of his garage fast and drifted around his driveway, almost hitting one of his junk cars.  I took off down the road with my foot to the floor.  This was spring time so the road was just graded and about 6 pm.  There was a car in the middle of the road as I was coming up to one of the bends.  I locked up the breaks, because I didn't know any better, and was sliding down the road.  I passed the car without hitting it and I looked back and as I look forward I see a hows coming up quick, I swing the wheel so I wouldn't hit the house and I hit a patch of loose gravel and slide into a telephone pole.  Hit at the corner of the passenger door and slide down the wheel wheel pushing the back tire into the trunk and pushed me off the pole and into the ditch, which dropped about 4 feet and the driver side slammed into the ditch and then luckily the car had enough weight on the driver side to push it on all four wheels instead of rolling.  Luckily there were no passengers and I walked away with just a seat belt bruise, a bruise on my head from my cd holder, and glass shards in my head.
this picture was taken about a month later when I sold the motor to someone
2nd car- '97 Subaru Legacy
This time this wasn't my fault, I let my brother borrow my car for the evening because I had to drive my mother to Albany and Saratoga.  We were in Saratoga when my brother calls me to find out where I am all frantic and sounded like he was about to cry, he wouldn't tell me what was wrong until he found me about ten minutes later in Target.  He came up to me and I asked what was wrong and he told me he hit a deer.  My first reaction was oh maybe the damage of the car wouldn't be to bad because my father hit a deer a week before and just dented his hood.  I go outside and see my car with the hood folded in and the radiator pushed back against the pulleys on the motor.  The insurance company totaled the car and I fixed it was more.

And the 3rd car- '98 Subaru Legacy wagon
This one I couldnt believe actually happened.  This one was my parts car that I was driving because I was to lazy to fix the 97, I was getting gas in Troy and I went to pull out of the parking lot and I pulled up behind this jacked up ford f-150 that was waiting to leave then all the sudden the driver of the truck throw it in reverse and hit the accelerator fast and backed into the front of my car, braking every part I bought the car for in the first place.

2002 Hyundai Accent (sold)
1999 Chevy Cavalier (sold to my brother)
1997 Subaru Legacy (Parted out and crushed)
1999 Honda Civic (Wrecked)
Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

Never been in any serious accidents I caused 100% *knocks on wood*

One time I kinda ran the front of some guys really old Ford Tempo over. It was actually more his fault than mine, he was edging out and didn't see me making a left. I clipped the turn maybe 1.5 feet over the "corner" but since he was rolling forward his front left corner went under the 4 Runner's left side middle. It took off my running board and flattened my tire, but totaled the Tempo  :-D

Otherwise I have been hit repeatedly in the WRX. Got rear ended sitting a pedestrian crossing without a light in Boston, dude in older Pathfinder didn't even see my car. See also recent thread where WRX got tagged when my sister was driving it.

Oh god...well I guess its time to face the music..here we go...

1st Vehicle-86' Ford F-350: Was backed into by a Jeep Cherokee Sport.  Bent the plow frame real good and bent the hood.  Not my fault, but I was pissed

2nd Vehicle- 98' Ford F-250: Decided to race a friend of mine's Chevy Pickup out of left turn only lane on Maxwell Rd in Clifton Park.  The fact that it was raining coupled with the fact that I was young and stupid resulted in me basically spinning out over-correcting and plowing into my friends pickup truck.

3rd Vehicle- 02 F-350: I was towing a very long trailer, cut the wheel too hard and crushed the side panel of the pickup body.

4th Vehicle 98' Outback: Spun out driving too fast on a icy road.  I put too much trust in the all-wheel drive.  Smashed the front end up pretty good but nothing in the engine bay was damaged.  Drove it home and informed the Town of Colonie DPW that someone must have hit a hydrant.

5th Vehicle: 99' Nissan Maxima:  Girlfriend's car.  Hydro-Planing on 890 at the SCCC exit.  Another driver cut me off and caused me to lose control and take out one of those giant arrows that dented the hood really bad.  Totalled the car.  Amazingly she is still with me  :-P

Now that I think of it, I don't think I have had a car that hasn't been "blessed".  I even backed into a small tree and put a good dent in the rear of the car.  And I wonder why my insurance is so damn high.
