How did I ever miss this thread.
I prefer to stay away from messing with Subaru tunes. They blow up easily enough on their own. They don't need my help.
That being said, sure you can pay for a tune. Sure you can pay a reputable tuner to throw a custom tune onboard. Sure, his tune might well do better than your own. However, tuning it an iterative process. Things need to be reviewed and adjusted. Fuel trims need to be logged, scaling needs to be calculated, knock needs to be reviewed, etc. If you're competent enough to understand and patient enough to proceed with such tasks, kudos to you. You are more knowledgeable than the majority of assholes who think just buying a car that makes a PSSHT sound automatically puts them at the top of the automotive food chain.
If I ever am forced at gunpoint to own a turbo subie, I won't pretend I know a thing about tuning it. Even good tunes result in broken parts... which is why I've come to know these cars so well, mechanically
