You can do it, but its probably not worth it. It'd be easier (and probably cheaper, in the long run), to sell your '08 and buy a WRX.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

waste of your time. Do you even know how turbo cars work?  First you would need a new clutch because even a little boost will will cause it to slip like a mother fucker. How do you plan to control timing, afr  Who are you gonna have tune it.  You would most likely need injectors and fuel to have enough fuel going into the engine. To make a wrx uppipe work you would have to cut a notch into your front subframe or swap in a wrx one which would kill any resale value of your car. Turboing a na subaru is not worth the time or money in the end it will cost you more then selling your car and taking that money and buying a wrx. just enjoy your car by doing suspension mods and and exhaust, you would be very surprised what good tires and suspension mods can do to a car.

Your motor wont hold up under boost.  The only way is to do a wrx motor swap and sub-frame swap.  If you want a car you can turbo and drive like a dick, BUY A CIVIC, after seeing all the trouble you have been having with this car, the best thing you could do for it is drive it nice and not trying to add power.  That is just my two cents.

all correct there is no point in putting a turbo on your 08 2.5i . Or just find a wrx or sti that got rear ended and swap every part from the motor to the rear wheels over to your car. Susp, tires, exhaust maybe some kinda intake and a tune. you say your just going to buy a WRX anyways whats the point of trying this.

leave it alone and trade in on a WRX...the time and money you spend into trying to turbo this car you would have a beast of a WRX or STi.

if you really want to know what you need, pete nailed it, i'll add a little, im guessing either a piggy back or standalone ECU, wiring harness, so the car would even have a clue as to whats going on, intake manifold, then you would need a different exhaust manifold/up pipe/downpipe, your car is a SOHC but i dunno if that would work or not.

im sure there is other shit i am missing...you will easily be in the thousands by the time your done and it still wouldnt be as quick as a stock WRX, even if it was, it would be a ticking time bomb. your motor is not made for a turbo therefore one probably should not be put on it, it makes it that less reliable and when you try to go sell it, you will get nothing for it.

if you grab one of your nuts and squeeze it really hard this is the feeling you will feel wen you invest a few grand and still dont have a turbo car. squeeze both if you think this is still a good idea

Rallitek has a 2.5L SOCH turbo kit.  It's possible but the cost is retarded, you will still be slower than a stock wrx.  You'd be better off leaving it stock and trading up when your tour is over.

Smash it into a tree, but don't die.  Then w/ your Insurance money, buy a WRX.   <---- Solid Plan, w/ no potential for failure or repercussions.

Ok, trash that plan, the crack wore off.  Just trade it in, if you really want a WRX.  If you're leaving soon, sell the 2.5i.  And when you get back just get a WRX.  Sounds like you're just getting really antsy and anxious to own a turbo Subaru.  Patience, Daniel Son.

^^ Best financial advise possible. While your gone, your car will just depreciate with age. When you come back, get a car you'll be happy with in the first place.

Don't get a newer 08 WRX, either.  Go buy a beat to shit bugeye and throw an STi longblock in it,  or grab one that's already had the goods thrown at it,  plus a good gearset so the transmission doesn't decide to become a claymore on a 2nd gear pull.

It'll be fast, you can beat it like a godless heathen and it'll be older, so insurance will be a little less, depreciation will already have taken hold and it'll still have mechanicals you can be familiar with.

The only thing stupider than turboing a stock NA Subie,  is poorly modding a WRX.
