Front Light Bar
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:08:56 PM »
So this is my idea...

I wanna make something similar to this without paying 260+$ for it

https://www.rallyinnovations.com/products.php?cat_id=96&parent_id=91

http://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30866

SO as i stated before start by bolting with the 3 bolts for the front part of the skip plate, have it wrap up to meet the licence plate bolts to secure it
So the bottom will fold up and be covered so that it  protect the front bumper to add to the already skid plate that is there.

Then i would wrap the a bar to cover the bottom of the bumper that then heads to the side where the brake ducts.

idk what do u think guys... kavik

one thing I don't like about most of the light bars out there is how wide they go off to the sides without mounts out near the ends.  Hit something on the corner and when that bar crumples it might do more damage to your car than the accident itself would have

I'd like to dig out some wireframe views of the car and see where there are possible mounting points that won't require much modification to the bumper.

If I have time I'll see if I can post up some screenshots from the repair manual tomorrow for reference and brainstorming

now, who's the best welder around here?

I prefer their "skidplate" mount over the regular lightbar.

it looks nice, but I hate the holes drilled out....and I wish they would show what the rest of the skidplate looks like

Iirc that's not a full skidplate piece, just a trim piece.

from the pics it looks like it extends back a little bit, just not very far

this is the last pic in the photo gallery:

I'd say maybe it goes as far back as the radiator supports?

I can make any of this you want.  Ask Fred how strong the front bar and skid plate I made is on the front of my old WRX rally monster.  I towed an A4 out of a ditch with it last Feb.

Hellas are great lights.  If you want hids look at kragens, I have them on my truck and they are extremely bright.  They light up everything!

See my problem with the legacy is that i dont have a skid plate at all, and it makes me nervous. So what i really want is a split front light bar and skid plate so that its easy to change the oil.

AND i really want some friggen lights up front because once again driving home on 146 is really dark and i almost killed a deer tonight .... i dont need 2 cars down

Funny yes, but the problem is 90% of the people here likely wouldn't spend what I'd have to charge to build these things to the spec that I deem fit for the abuse it can take, and won't degrade the strength or quality of my bits to meet market demand price.

Ask Fred how tough mine is on his new car when he had the flatbed guy winch the car up onto the wrecker by it when his charging system died.  You do that with any of the other off shelf bits and you'd find yourself with a taco'ed front bar and a car rolling back down the road.

Not many can justify ~$450 for a front rally bar/subframe unit..

I think that's actually pretty reasonable.  I do not miss being a poor college student.

yeah, for a bar and sub-frame together, of that quality, i think it's right on the mark
(does that include the skid plate as well?  I know you talked about a skid plate/crash bar/sub frame combo before, but didn't mention a price at the time)

obviously not as cheap as if you just want something to throw some lights on, but more for protection.  I'm still interested in the idea, I just need to figure some things out first with this car, determine if it's worth doing that much more to first

Provided this thing can hit something with good speed and not totally get ruined... i can see myself spending 500 on one.

Well, before I sold my car to Fred, I hit a concrete curb at the door to Alpin Hause on Rt5 and took a chunk out of the concrete with the skidplate.  Didn't even leave a mark on the thing.

If you'd like to see one first hand prior to paying me to make one, just shoot over to capital land when fred has the car there and you can see it right up close.  I could even go there and take pictures of the thing on one of their lifts If needed.

Solid/strong is the last thing you have to worry about with my products.

Here's the bar in action at the very last RX I attended with the car, and yes the rear wheels are off the ground in that picture!

i snuck a quick look while Fred was having his garage sale a while back.  All these pics i've seen of that car abusing that bar/plate, and all I saw on it was chipped paint  :2funny:
