Got my coilovers!
« on: February 02, 2011, 09:38:27 AM »
I got my coils last week and put them on, I can't wait for spring :tickedoff:

This is how she came out of the garage

Next is sway bars while I'm waiting for my rims to go into production. I'm picking up a set of 18x9.5 +38 Rota T2R'shttp://www.wheeldude.com/wdg/_detail.php?pic=6459&image=6459_1.jpg
Going for low and not so slow this year :2funny:

those wheels look like they were inspired by a melted set of the BBS wheels you have now in gold....interesting  :-)

Agreed those wheels are hot. Be careful about going too low, it's not a good thing on Suby's

Nah, ditched that idea after seeing one towed out of the woods with the wiring harness cut in half by a rock. :idiot2: I decided to keep the scoob and change it up a bit more. They are BC's, and It'll be nice and low despite the haters :2funny: Right now I have about a credit card between my axle and the bottom of my coil :-D

Don't worry it will handle just find. Its not like I'm notching my frame and sitting the car on the ground. I just like concave and will have a clean setup that has form and function.

I wasn't worried about anything :-D

I was just pointing out there are inherent limitations in the subaru suspension and steering design that when lowered too far actually create a really terrible camber curve.

Yes sir, I'm aware. Nothing my camber plates, camber bolts, sway bars and braces, and a performance alignment won't take care of :)

Actually it is, you should do some research on how the front suspension in your car works.

I searched around on nasty for it, but I couldn't find the thread I was looking for. There is a certain lowering limit whereby all of those mods become ineffective.

I've done lots of research about every aspect of my car. Theres a reason why I have nothing but quality parts on my car (insert bc bashing here). If you haven't noticed it's not sitting on the axles and rubbing on them and I didn't notch my frame. My ride height is right In the sweet spot, so go do some more of your own research and quit cluttering up my thread. I'll be a proud member of the WFC just for haters like yourself. You're worried about my ride height but not my super aggressive wheels? That's surprising. Don't worry though, I did all the "go" parts before the show ones.

He's not worried about anything.  If anything you made your car safer, the borked camber curve keeps the front end all safe and understeery.  I'm pretty good at running into shit, so I can appreciate that  :-).  I had my '95 legacy totally slammed and it was a looker...slow as balls so it's all the car was really good for.

I can't wait to get home and see the pics, which are blocked at work.  It sounds cool.

The Raptor would've been cool too, but Motor Trend has one and found a few issues with it:  It can't get in most parking garages and it's averaging 13mpg.

Step back from the keyboard. I never said your car was too low, I was just issuing caution that too low can cause issues. I can't tell from a picture where it actually measures, can you tell me what the measurements are?

PS- I think that it's pretty hilarious that you jumped all over me and identified me as a "hater" when I was just trying to ensure you didn't negatively affect the handling of your car. I guess I am a hater if I try to ensure that performance is maintained.

For reference, my old car-

Yeah, I think I was at 14.5" front and 14.25" rear with my oilcover setup.

god i hate reference to nasioc, im glad all their info is so justifying and trustworthy, bunch of fat ass nerds sitting behind a computer alll day long coming up with numbers that worked with their "setup". theres too many products out and different variations in modifications for me, i do the good ole lowering springs and be done with it, but then again ive never cared about how the car handled, as long as it goes and stops im happy.

i take everything i read on there with a grain of salt.

josh i like where you are going with it though, should look sick this year!

Haha Greg I agree. I was borderline happy with my stance with my RCE yellows, but my struts were SHOT so I said f it and bought coils. That and I wanted a bit moar low in the front. You better get your ass up here tomorrow night for my party! You can crash here if you want.

I don't remember the exhaust numbers I'll measure it again. I think I'm going to go a little lower in the front when I put the 18's on. I know I'm just under 14" in the rear

Exhaust numbers? I assume you meant suspension. I wouldn't go below 14.5" up front.

If you really want to go that low there is a kit I think RCE makes that moves the geometry up front.

Also, I found measuring to be subject to where I was parked, so I always measured a few times before I got the car corner weighted to make sure it was where I wanted it first.

As much as there are plenty of keyboard assassins on Nasioc, there are also a lot of guys that have done a ridiculous amount of testing, setup, and seat time. The hard part is knowing who is who.
