carbone
« on: April 20, 2011, 08:26:16 AM »
Hey all,
My buddy went to carbone to look at a wrx (without talking to me first).  They gave him the usual fuckery; offered him 2K on a 6K trade, told him they didn't want to insult him by lowballing, told him there was only one left and a couple people were after it etc.  The best part, however, was that, while they were gone for about an HOUR "assessing" his trade, two salesman put on a little role playing scherade where one pretended to be an eager buyer for the last wrx on the lot.  Not only is my friend not a moron, he saw the salesman when he first came in!  Needless to say my buddy was unimpressed and left.  Before I could get to him he bought a basemodel mazda 3.  It's like driving a weedwhacker... Anyway, thought you'd enjoy a laugh.

lol I hate that shit. I heard back in the day it used to be a good experience buying a car. You used to drive away feeling good about it.  I guess mine was decent until the preceeding weeks, but after that it was the same ould shit you expect today

They have a couple non-subaru dealerships that aren't staffed by tossers.  Advantage wasn't good before, the Carbone takeover seems to have exacerbated things.  My roommate's father works at their Jeep/Chrysler dealership in Utica, and I've passed on the word that their rep sucketh.

Dealers blow.  Bottom line.  In the past 6 months, I've gone to three different dealers, and all tried to hand me the standard dealer bullshit lines / acts.  Too many people out there are suckers for the act, that's why they continue to be ass-hats.

I definitely wouldn't dream of going there...  It's as if these places don't know that customers talk to each other.  From now until I die, if I hear someone talking about Carbone, this is the story I will tell.  Damn shortsighted on their part. :idiot2:

I hear ya, When i bought my truck from lia i went in to pick it up and it didn't have the aftermarket trd skid plate the salesman told me he would include.  I literally threw a fit and walked out, guy said he couldn't throw it in when he called me that afternoon.  I bitched to no avail but i wasn't going to get anywhere and i already had my car sold and the check cut (and i knew every other dealer was atleast 1000- bucks above what i got my truck for) so i ended up giving in.  I told him i'd never spend another dime there and never buy a car from lia again unless he tossed it in, he didn't even give a fuck, and he was just fine with that.  It should have been a day where i felt great driving off the lot but instead i felt like i just got bent over.  A year later and now that i'm about through warranty on my truck (29k miles so far) I will go to northway toyota for everything.  Lesson learned: Get everything in writing, don't trust those lying dirtbags

I had a dealer tell me that he had the car "sold" for $3,000 more then what i offered and i was crazy for asking for more. I promptly reminded him I was a professional salesman myself, and sold isn't until you have the money in your pocket. I got my price, but those motherfuckers took the floor mats while i was signing. I'm happy they got their little victory.

This is all we hear now a days. When I got my STI I said i wanted it just like the one on the lot but black and no BBS wheels (fogs and BBS were a package together. When I pocked up the car there were no fogs. I asked for my deposit back. They put the fogs on same day.
Whoever smelt it dealt it.

Carbone owns "Advantage" right?  We have a carbone subaru out this way.  Never dealt with the sales people but the service dept is pretty shitty and the parts department is definitely not Capitaland.

I will say that when i was looking for an open top car, I was looking at a $25,000 used Z4 on their BMW lot for shits and giggles.  A guy came out  of the sales floor, threw me the keys and told me to take her for a spin.

I too have never heard one good thing about Carbone.  Years ago I almost bought a WRX from Advantage until they started playing a bunch of ludicrous games, so I walked.  I have yet to have any really good buying experiences with any dealer in NY.  My business with Subaru's will always go to Manchester Suby in New Hampshire.

carbone blows, ive tried buying 3 different subarus from them. and everytime they have offered 4-6k low on trades added ontop of the outrageous asking prices on used cars. passed them the other day. theyre big item was a "low mileage" 06 2.5i with 55k on it....for 15.9
total scumbags

I was taking my 04 WRX to Advantage/Carbone for service and didn't have any problems.  In fact, they helped me fix a problem caused by one of those jiffy oil change places, and didn't charge me much for it, so I was happy.  Now though, after reading this, and buying an 11 WRX I'm not sure where to take it for service.

Do it yourself.  If I can't work on a car, it's my opinion I don't deserve to own it.  I'm referring to stuff like consumables:  fluids, belts, brakes, suspension, bulbs, etc.  Not stuff like driveshaft replacement or headgaskets.

I like the idea, but I don't have the first clue of where to start.  Nor do I have a garage in which to work (I live in an apartment complex).

I used to work on my car basically in the street.

Once the RPI shop opens, we can meet up there and I'm sure a few of us would not mind showing you some basics.

i recommend covered parking garages at work, if security asks just tell them it broke down and you just went and got the new part on lunch
