11 wrx steering wheel choices
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:21:14 PM »
im looking between two choices. both use the airbag and center insert so it still looks somewhat stock.

the damd d-shaped wheel->http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php?cPath=65_71&products_id=176

the prova d-shaped wheel->http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Prova-D-Shaped-Steering-Wheel-Subaru-WRX-STI-2008-2011

yes i know what they cost, im willing to spend it. Its more than just looks. Makes steering more weighted, responsive, comfortable, and quicker. Plus the d-shaped looks badass.

Im leaning towards the damd because of leather... (practicalirty: cleaning, price, not building a one off show car...)....but im always open to suggestion and would like to hear opinions!

Thanks for the input!

I like the looks of the DAMD one.....but this is something I'd have a real hard time deciding on from just pics...something like that you gotta feel in your hands, ya know?  Especially at those prices

i thought that they were pretty much the same shape. i know im a traitor, but before i made my vehicle purchase i test drove a gti, this is what it reminds me of.   I thought it was mainly on what kind of material i should go for. but yes damd is more tempting in all aspects

originally I didn't see the same contours because of the suede material.  Looking closer they do look a lot the same....but is the damd one a little wider at the 10-2 positions? It looks like there's a slight bulge there that might be more comfortable

I personally like the look of the damd better myself  :mrgreen:
2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5rs wagon

1995 Subaru Brighton Rs (sold)
2002 Hyundai Accent (sold)
1999 Chevy Cavalier (sold to my brother)
1998 Subaru Legacy wagon (traded to Blackparis)
1997 Subaru Legacy (Parted out and crushed)
1999 Honda Civic (Wrecked)
Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

I personally like the look and feel of the STI wheels myself.   :wink:

Edit: checked out the links.  Factory airbag looks out of place on the DAMD, cheapens the look substantially.  The Prova didn't have a picture but I suspect the same thing.

heehehheheh yes it is...but i have heard nothing but absolute greatness from this. Its actually suposed to add to the driving dynamics of the vehicle...better steering response and so forth. (just what ive heard on forums and reviews)

im okay with spending it. But for real guys. Whats the one thing that you touch the most in your subies?? what is the first connecting point to the road?? what do you stare at more than anything?? it kinda makes sense in my mind  :uglystupid2:

What I mean is the airbag covers from subarus look like cheap plastic pieces and ruin the look of the wheels you posted, which I actually think are pretty sweet.  But I realize not everyone is a moron like myself without an airbag  :crazy2:.  The BMW has one at least, but the SRS light is flashing like I'm in a techno club. :mrgreen:

new question, is it possible to swap over a center section from a newer wheel to make this work in an '05?  I'm assuming the years listed were jdm years, so it's for usdm '06+?

I was wondering about that.  Not sure how the airbags on the wrx's deploy, but on my baja and legacy they split the center of the airbag cover and each half went a different direction as the airbag applied itself to the driver's face.

From what I saw, for the guys with the older wheels, you have to order the silver steering wheel control cover(blanks) and you use your airbag.  I'm pretty interested but IDK, I really have to finish my hub swap first...

if you look closely, you can see the weakspot on the bag that suabru designed. it splits it half way and goes just underneath the star cluster
