Mike's 2011 WRX
« on: April 25, 2011, 10:46:46 PM »
I'll be posting all of my updates here from now on.  Here's some recent pics with the Rally Armor UR flaps (thanks Fred), pinstripe in the grill and the Kartboy shift kit.

the kit came with the army men.  it was awesome   :2funny:

all of the bushing were by far the biggest difference.  i also just bought the Nameless Performance axle-back on friday.  It's getting powder-coated now (black with polished staggered tips).  should be in the mail by friday.  i got some red Ray's lug nuts in the mail today too but i'm re-thinking that purchase.  they almost look pink and might be too obnoxious for me.  might send them back and get black.  a change to the tail lights and suspension is next in line.

just 1/4" red pin striping from advance auto and about 10 minutes and 2 attempts to make it perfect.

alrighty, just bought the paint for it.  Got some VHT Nite Shade, Krylon Stained Glass in Red and some Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Gloss.  Gonna be doing it on saturday.  i'll post up some pics when done.

so, i did the paint on saturday night.  came out awesome!  couldn't be happier. i taped and painted the red border on first, let that dry and taped over that to darken the reverse light.

i had a little fuck up here.  i used leftover wrapping paper on one of the lights and the Night Shades bleed through and stuck to the original red i did.  I was so pissed at first, but just lightly scraped it off and then used the LiftOff to get the rest removed along with a tiny bit of the red paint.  I just sprayed 2 quick light coats over it and fixed it pretty nicely.  If you look really close you can see a little imperfection but overall i'm satisfied.

same light, after the fix.

another angle of the bad one.

thanks for looking.  and yes, those pink (supposed to be red) lugs are going ASAP!  don't like them at all.

that looks pretty damn good (after the mistakes were fixed)

I probably would've put another coat of the tint over the whole thing to tone down the red a bit and go just a hair darker on the clear part....but that's just personal preference

I think you sprayed it too thin / dry.  Do another coat or two of the clear and put it on nice and thick, so it looks wet.  You basically want to get on the edge of causing a drip or run.  That will give you a nice gloss finish.

i still have an unopened can of red and the clear is pretty full.  i think i'll be adding some more clear though to get some gloss out of it like KA_killuh suggested.
