need help installing stuff
« on: May 23, 2011, 11:42:04 AM »
As the title states, I need help installing new CV-shafts, front hubs, new brakes.  My air tools need to be updated and I don't have the money at the moment.  If anyone has a garage or air tools and experience putting in CV-shafts and hubs, I would buy pizza and give money for beer if wanted (I'm only 19 so I can't buy or drink). If anyone is free during the week, that would be best.  I need a new CV-shaft soon because mine is making an awful clicking noise and vibrates.

1999 Chevy Cavalier (sold to my brother)
1998 Subaru Legacy wagon (traded to Blackparis)
1997 Subaru Legacy (Parted out and crushed)
1999 Honda Civic (Wrecked)
Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

Yeah, I would do it myself with no "adult supervision" but this car is my daily driver and I don't want to break anything  :crazy2:

You can can the axles out pretty quickly once you have the jam nut  off...  you need a impact to take those off..  The earlier models all you gotta do is pop out the roll pin and it drops right out  put some PB blast on the bolts and nuts and soak every thing for a good week.. Then  before you take most of the bolts / nuts off put a socket on em and tap it with a hammer to shock the bolt and break loose the penetrated rust..

I can't believe I didn't break a bolt on a I think 02 wrx. doing a rotor and brake pad replacement.. the amount of rust piles under the work area were crazy..   3/8 impact .. the electric kind will sheer off a 1/2 bolt  given the grade of the bolt..

I got jack stands and a low profile and the tools needed to help..  but working on cars suckzors.. It's always fix fix fix fix fix fix .. Fix the shit.. fix fix fix.. any way you look at it ... its a fix  I helped Pete do his axles on his RS..  takes about 1 hour taking your time.. and being carefull..

Fuck is it time to go fishing yet? :?

:-D  oh, the list has grown....here's everything that's currently pending (though not expecting to get it all done at once, and some of it I can do elsewhere, just sayin'):

White Wagon:
Rotors/pads
Uppipe/front O2 sensor
Some adjustments to the coilovers while the brakes are being done

Yellow wagon:
both front axles
Rotors/pads/e-brake
driveshaft (if the vibrations don't go away after the axles/rotors)
Cat-back
Turbo swap (stock turbo/silicone inlet)
up-pipe
intake manifold/tgv deletes
gas leak recall while the intake manifold is off
a bunch of mounts/bushings

the list will probably grow, as I'll probably break more shit before I get around to doing all of that  :2funny:

Anyway, yeah, like I said....some of it I can do here on good weather days, but some of it would be nice to have use of a garage for
And I can make a decent cake from a box LOL  But cash/free grounding kit might make a little more sense  :coolsmiley:

But, I'll pm you when I'm ready to think about it more seriously

and rshaw: I assumed you wouldn't mind the thread jack, since your stuff is taken care of now lol

what a day......apparently when you lift a car, the ball joints don't like to line up during the reinstall  :uglystupid2:

anyway, thanks for all the help Trev

most of my vibrations are gone now with new axles and new front rotors.....still have some clicking/clunking noise on slow turning and large bumps though.  I think part of it is probably that worn tophat, but part of it sounded like something on the drivers side still......guess there's more I need to look at under there
