this way of doing it has to be re-done if the battery is disconnected, right?

Pretty sure it does yeah.  I did it in my '05 Legacy GT and had to redo it when I popped the negative terminal off.

I don't drive without a belt...don't need an annoying beep to remind me to put it on.  But, yeah, hopefully that's not other peoples reason for doing it

i always use my seatbelt except when i autocross. it's nice to not have the beeps, because i don't have to have the belt clipped in the whole time.

I also feel naked in the car without my belt...but my buddy is much too fat to even get his on (yes, I know, that's a whole other issue) so riding in the car with him is fucking annoying.  This trick will be much appreciated.

does that really work?  i wear my belt all the time anyway, it's just habit.  even if im just moving around in a parking lot like 100'.  i'll have to give it a try though.  i have a HUGE book of cd's i bring sometimes and it makes my passenger seat go off so i have to toss em on the floor or in the back.

does it matter which seat you do it to?  do you have to do it to both?

Why would you not... in fact you would want to be strapped down even more.

because it's annoying to sit on and on a hot day i get major swamp ass anyways. also, when i am inspecting, sometimes i sit in my car with it on for the heat or AC and it's nice not to be clipped in just sitting there.

:-D  don't we have a whole other thread for discussing benefits/drawbacks of wearing harnesses full time?

back on topic......if you don't want to do this anytime you reset the ecu, I wonder how hard it is to just locate the beeper and disconnect the wires. Anyone tried it that way?

In old cars, it was a buzzer in the glove box that went off if you left the keys in the ignition and the door was open.. I had a piece of thin cardboard in mine (it was a mechanical buzzer, with a flapper and all)... that silenced it.

Off topic, but sort of relevant.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

on the drivers seats in my 05 legacy, there is a connector under the seat, you could slide the seat all the way forward and inplug it. and never had it come back after the battery or ECU was reset, the passenger side it could not be done that way as the connector for the chime also had the wiring for the SRS system

Ok.. so my test reveals (06 forester).. It works.. Till you turn the car off..  Then you have to do it again.. And its actually kind of annoying, since I normally only sit in my car for 10-15mins. (waste of 30 seconds)
