Bugeye strut upgrades
« on: June 27, 2011, 10:43:11 AM »
My bug came on s-techs.. YAY!!  :mrgreen:  The inspection people said the struts were pretty beat {he knows Id fix them myself and not pay them to do it},  so I've been waiting for the struts to finally go and then get a new strut/spring combo at once....

Someone recently informed me they are putting their 04 STi struts/ stock springs / 50k miles for sale...  Are the struts a good upgrade? or would I be better off on another option?  I still will look at other spring options.

Also from what I read,  with 04-07 tophats on a bugeye, you need a spacer for the rear.  Is that for mounting the tophats to the car {same for 04 sti?}  or mounting the 04+ top hats on a bugeye struts? {no worries in this case}

If you are even considering KYB-AGX's then don't...I'll be replacing my second set under warranty in the next month.  1st set lasted 60K, the second set didn't even make it 50K.  The only positive is that they have a lifetime warranty but most people don't have the ability/wherewithal to take advantage of it.  That is the upside of having parents that live 10 minutes from the South Bend, IN Tire Rack facility. :mrgreen:

I'd do the STi struts if the price is right (lowish) since you can have them rebuild by Feal.  If you are getting the whole assembly strut/spring/tophat you don't have to worry about spacers etc...

$250K in "Brain" mods...

Cool...thats what I was looking for.. It will be the whole assembly.. I may look at other springs though.  50k miles isn't too bad either.
