if Byron ran for president, I'd not only vote for him, but I'd register a bunch of false names and drive to different voting booths all over wearing all sorts of different disguises so I could vote for him several times.  Not only did he install my gauges, short shifter, bushings, and intercooler hoses, but he also removed a scratch I had from some unknown source, as well as found a clip that I lost when I removed my a-pillar.

now on to pics:

and finally I took a short short video in the legacy

http://home.nycap.rr.com/bagsyrules/legacy.avi

sounds really good.  I love teh legacy. and RHD is WEIRD!!!

well, that was my day.  :P

oh yeah and I may as well post a small review of the other stuff.  I/C hoses... you know I think I can tell a difference.  I KNOW I could tell a difference when I had my exhaust put on, in 5th gear I don't even need to downshift to pass... and it seems that now, with the I/C hoses, in 5th, passing is even easier   Maybe it's one of those "it's just me" things... I donno...

and the KB short shifter and bushings... VERY  ... makes it feel a lot cleaner/tighter when shiftering.

I'll probably take more pics of the gauges install when I get some more daylight.

That's a cool video. My car is pretty loud now. I hope it doesn't get any louder when I finally get the last cat out.

My pleasure with the install. It was totally problem free and I was very pleased with the fit and quality of all the stuff you bought.

I forgot to tell you, Thaison from J-Spec where I bought the gauges from Paypal'ed me $10 for the pics   so that's extra cool.

I thought the Legacy sounded badass.  but I already said that.  haha it's been a long night.

Gauges look really good.  How's the response time on the EGT gauge?

Where did you tap the probe?

Looks great!!!

seems pretty good to me, haha this is the first car I"ve ever had any sort of gauges in.

uh, tapped the probe?  I have no idea... Im clueless haha, this is why I pay people to put stuff on my car, versus doing it myself.    I know it was on the manifold, but other than that I can't tell you anything.  except I like pudding.  and Ghost Dad was the best film since Leonard Part 6.

I dont feel like fugging with the lighting in the rest of the car. :p hehh

the gauges came with a box to adjust the colors, but we didn't put it in cause I would have nowhere to mount it.  I already have the V1 remote display and the gauges and I'm probably getting a knock link too.  Too much clutter is bad.

I tapped the manifold on the passenger side where it could get flow from both cylinders. This worked well on my '02 and it seems to work well in hers too. We didn't see over 1500f when we were out beating....uhh testing driving it.

Yeah, thats what I was wondering, which side.  I guess it's easier to do on the drivers side, but recommended on the passenger side because that's the hotter running cylinder bank due to the turbo being so close...

I'm also interested in the fit and finish of the bezel...I read that the color is just a little bit off from the OEM color...some people have painted them...

yeah it's a little blacker.  The only thing I don't like about it is that it' s the kind of plastic that shows all the marks easily. I mean like simply packing it into a box it will get scratched. oh well, i will probably get one in the spring to run the AEM wide band a/f gauge and who knows what else.

i'm not sure about the AEM wideband o2.....call me about that byron...

no offense to anyone (including me since I have one) but EGT gauges aren't really that helpful.... :? but its good to see the operating temp of your exhaust...

Call you about what?  I already read all about it and it seems like a really good piece.

As for EGT...it lets you know when you need to get off the gas because you are running lean. No it doesn't let you know about misfire or other problems but it's one more thing to help you keep your motor together.

^^ that's what I thought.

IF you're keeping the stock ecu and reflashing it with an Accessport you keep the subaru misfire detection, right?  (flashing CEL)

I thought flashing CEL was the UTEC display of misfire. Oh yeah I remember. A steady flashing CEL means you had a misfire with the stock ecu and with the utec it flashes only when you get the knock but it goes off right after.

I was talking to a guy on another forum last night that was telling me Ecutek is the way to go... and Gruppe-S has a power package that includes the VF34, injectors, fuel pump and Ecutek for ~1800 which seems pretty good to me, but I still need to install all that, plus spark plugs and a dyno tune.  any of you guys know anything about Ecutek?

yeah, ecutek is a reflash. so you would need to find out who can do it out here unless he is planning in sending you a new ecu in exchange for yours.

My friend hung out with Ben from EcuTEk North America's parents... so I'll support a friend of a friend, and probably go with EcuTek ultimately :)

Btw, not that this applies here... but on new ford PowerStrokes, if the EGT gets too high, it melts the exhaust housing of the turbo and deforms it :D

Only really happens when the fuel maps are modified on those though :)
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

the AEM UEGO uses an older style Bosch LSU sensor....i'd honestly recommend the Innovate sensor. They seem to get really good reviews and I've spoken with them on a few occasions....

EGT is useless because it won't really tell you if you're running lean because if you're running too rich, you'll also have high EGTs. Not to mention most people don't have them anywhere close enough to be useful. Also, they really are only good if you have one probe on each cylinder. That would let you tell difference between cylinders and adjust accordingly. A WBO2 is much more valuable for tuning. Knock sensor is pretty useless too.

ECUtek is nice, but it sucks that you have to repay everytime you want to change something, and the first reflash is almost as much as a UTEC. Red04, if you want a UTEC, I'll probably sell you mine.

I might take you up on that.  I didn't know about having to pay ecutek again and again every time you change your setup.

If I were to go the UTEC route, it would be the UTEC plus VF34 plus injectors plus fuel pump and spark plugs also, correct?  and a dyno tune is a good idea?  Where could I go to have my car dyno tuned?
