Time for new summers

Since these are what I took off my car last year, i think I am in need of a new set


Now I am trying to decide between BF Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 ($106) and Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 ($99)

I have running Hankook winters for the last 5 years and haven't had an issue with them. But I don't know about their summers.
Daily driver, no autocross but still do some spirited runs.

I'm in the same boat, found a nail when swapping to my winter wheels this year

I can't speak for the BF, never had those, but i was a big fan of the Hankook's and was considering those again myself

The road noise wasn't bad with them?

Ummmm, i don't specifically remember the noise being an issue. But in all honesty is been quite a few years now, and the car itself wasn't exactly quiet

I just remember being impressed with the grip, still handling well in the wet, and i wanna say they lasted quite a while, though i guess i can't swear 100% to that either. And good price, of  course

I ended up ordering the Hankooks from Kis Kis for $154 each mounted and balanced. If I had ordered them from online, I would have only saved $15 total after shipping, mounting and balancing.

I'm still thinking of dropping down to 17's and buying wheels at the same time. Getting my bonus this week, so i guess know would be the time to finally make up my mind on that

it's a shame tire companies have given up on 16" performance tire options.  I think the '3 would look cool on some 16" beefy 5-spokes with fatty fat tires.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread for one question, so I will throw it here.

A co-worker has an '14 WRX wagon. Right now he has 235/45/17 on 8 inch wheels. He wants to mount 245/40/17 on the same 8s. Will he run into any rubbing issues?
I already warned him about the harshness ride of 40s but he still wants them.

Has he got them mounted on the car currently? Should be easy enough measuring to see if he has 5mm  to spare on each side, no?

Same old story of different tires aren't always the same actual width as the given measurements... But at least keeping the same wheel and not changing offset should make this one  a pretty straight forward "measure and see" situation

Remember, sidewall height is a proportion of width:
235/45 = "235mm" * 0.45 =  105.75mm
245/40 = "245mm" * 0.40 =  98.00mm

Depends on the offset of the wheel, and manufacture of the tire.  Generally, with a 245 vs 235 given the same compound, the 235 may respond faster, while the 245 may have more absolute grip but feel a little sloppier on turn-in.  Nismonic ran 255's or 265's on his 2012 hatchback.

The lower profile 245 may partially make-up for the numb turn-in from going too wide on an 8", but the ride is only going to get worse.  Not sure I understand the point.
