03 Foz - any wheelbearing replacement tips ?

My Dad picked up another forester (2003), it has a bad rear wheel bearing.  AFIK, these are pressed in bearings.  I'm trying to talk him into pulling the hub to replace the bearing, he's hoping to not pull the hub and do it in car.

Is one way better than another ?

I don't know if it's better, but being a McPherson strut, I'd try to pull the hub.  It should make it easier to get the damn bearing out, no?

I think I've got him headed toward pulling the hub then pressing it.  If we get a couple warm days together, I know what I'll be doing and will report back.

Any ideas on the long bolt that connects the control arms to the knuckle ?  It's grown into the bushings...

Nah, I don't have anything constructive.  Haven't played around too much on ones that weren't very new.

Yeah that long bolt needs to be cut into a million little pieces to be removed. Only way we did it when i was working at the subaru dealer. Those early forester and impreza rear bearings sucked a lot to do.
